Hey Matt. Great, informative review. Thanks. Question: In the demonstration of using the lights in the dark, the light from the LuminAid flickers and the light from the Luci is steady. Is the flicker visible to your eye, or is it the camera picking it up and you can't see the flicker with your eye? It's a little like taking video of a TV that is interlaced scanning. That flicker would really bother me if it is visible to the naked eye. Thanks again.

David Hartson you can’t see the flicker with your eye. Just camera.

The flicker from the luminaid leds is due to something called Pulse Width Modulation, google it, but basically the light turns on/off very quickly in order to control the brightness of a led. You don’t notice it with your eyes but it does lead to eye fatigue easier.

I got the Luminaid and I use it for work all the time. I don't inflate it, rather I hang it over my passenger side of my car as I have to work within my vehicle for 12 hours, many times during the night. It lasts for hours, over 10 hours in my experience as it can go throughout the night. Very useful for me. So the Luminaid functions as a very good car light to light up the front of my car for myself when I don't want to waste my car battery.

Have the Luci and really like it. Lasts for ever on low which I mostly use for background illumination inside the tent with the option to set on high. The only thing I wished is that it was frosted. Wholly crap just realized I had commented on this video 2 years ago. 🙃

Great comparison video. Helped me really get a feel for the lights so I could decide which to buy. Thanks!

This is the only review I've found that shows just how poorly the Luci Outdoor functions as an area lantern, which is what I suspected with the clear plastic. They do have the "Lux" version, which seems similar but with a matte finish. I think I still prefer the Luminaid.

When inflating my luci lights i first pinch the bite valve and use my other hand to pull it apart. The luci light will also almost fully inflate and with one puff of air its ready to go
@secondchance66033 жыл бұрын
It really is that easy.
@MWDAdventures5 жыл бұрын
No it doesn’t. That is just because of the camera picking it up in the lens.
@jupamoers Жыл бұрын
You should change the shutter speed of your camera, so the lights don't flicker ;)

Great review! I selected these two products for consideration out of a whole range of camping lights. Prices of both have dropped to €25 for both in April 2019. For the moment I am not buying any of them since I could do better with a rechargeble AAA batteries and a headlight for reading and I don't really need areal lighting since I tend to camp solo and won't have long conversations at night at a camping table with some beer. This gadget would be worth €15 to me and I'll wait for the next improved model.

Btw, the new superhero luminaid uses USB to micro usb. The handle uses now velcro instead of plastic plugs, etc.

Does the Luminaid have the annoying bright blue LED look to it? Is it warmer? thanks!

It is more blue tint.

There had been a Luci with frosted plastic but I don't think they had the ability to charge via USB or charge other devices. I don't know if they're still making those.
@plmn93 Жыл бұрын
Luci Lux, in regular and pro versions. The pro can charge other devices, but is not as bright as the Luminaid, and is more of a matte finish than frosted so it probably doesn't diffuse light quite as well.

How do the perform now after over a year of use? Do they still perform the same.
@MWDAdventures2 жыл бұрын
Yes, they continue to work as well as when we bought them.

Did you even test how well the solar charging works? Or did I miss that?
@Thromnabular4 жыл бұрын
@@Grateful2Exist obviously the product description will tell you what the solar recharge time in the most ideal controlled conditions... probably tested them at high altitude at the equator during summer on a cloud less day

Also no one should expect to get any meaningful charge for your phones out of the tiny solar panels in these lights. That shouldn't even be a consideration
@MWDAdventures4 жыл бұрын
agreed, the panel is more for emergencies. I have put them in the cars dash and and with driving all day they fully charge which is nice.
@Thromnabular4 жыл бұрын
@@MWDAdventures I meant to say for charging phones or separate electronics. I believe the solar panels are more than enough to charge the lights themselves. But I'm not certain

Luci Lux is matte plastic. Doesn't appear to be as "frosted" as this one though, and is a little dimmer. But it charges faster.

Get the newer Luminaid superhero. It's way stronger then any luci, has a 3000 mah battery, etc. Luci is for some cheap camping not to be relied upon year round.
