Mezzos like Luciana D'Intino and Stephanie Blythe....they just make take your breath away, make your heart stop and then bring you back to life, again and again!! She is phenomenal! Check out her recording of 'La Gioconda', with Violetta Urmana in the lead role and Placido Domingo. It is such a high calibre of singing all round that you simply wont believe it! But of her own merit, I feel a part of a GREAT LEGEND, being alive when she's at the height of her career. Eviva Luciana!! Bravissima!!

My first contact with d'Intino was her Laura Adorno on EMI with Urmana and Domingo. I was really struck by how even all three registers were, with a warm creamy sound to top it all off!! This was my second, and I became more interested in seeing her other performances. A worthy successor to the empty throne that Simionato and Cossotto left in Italy

I'm not quite sure what point you're trying to make here ... however, I think you'll find that Ms D'Intino has indeed 'made her mark' on the opera world despite the fact that she has not become a household-ish name such as Garanca or Kasarova. While many enjoy her 'style' of singing, there are some who deem it too 'traditional' and think that this is not what the public want to hear - oh, how they are wrong!

I agree - the 2001 Parma version is astounding! This is not a bad account of 'O don fatale' but the earlier version is a real showstopper, as it should be! Why d'Intino has never made it right to the forefront of today's singers is beyond me. She hails from that traditional Italian school of mezzos (Simionato, Barbieri, etc), with phenomenal voices, ranges and a great sense of drama. I have watched her clips here countless times but never tire of them. Brava!

To: arpeggio 1358 If you are trying to compare this performance w/Simionato and say that this one is better, than I have nothing to add, as you do not hear the real evenness due to the quality of older recording of Simionato, but I am sure that if you heard Simionato live, you would not even compare them....that is why opera dies, very few people understand the difference.

I have listened this this several times, and it's not the model of perfection, but it is FAR from being a disaster. I ask, who is an excellent Eboli these days? Olga Borodina? Violeta Urmana? Wrong, and wrong. Anyway, I like D'intino's chest voice. If she had been THAT bad, she would sounded very wobbly and opaque.

Beautiful voice, but her singing is rather monotonous, without any change of color for the shifting moods of the aria, and despite being Italian, she doesn't really seem to bite into or use the words for expressive effects. But the singing is quite lovely.

Very monotonous. Also I could add that her choices for chest use is unusual compared to everyone else. She adds chest where there is no need...and you get an odd sound where we are used to hearing head tones. That bothered me.

Great singer! interestingly, I saw her laura in paris last year and the voice did not sound as huge and dramatic, I even got the impression she even was underpowered at times, weird huh? she sounds so massive in recordings... by comparison Violeta Urmana sounded better projected, partly because of all the screeching, but you could hear her clearly

Singers w / great instruments don't need to distract w / those standard hand & arm movements. They all seem to do it, even when recording. A great singer w / a great voice should let the voice speak for itself. They don't have to be a statues, but they don't have to use the same-old-same-old everyone else uses. I have seen singers "stand & deliver" in concerts w / o trying to fly off-stage ; I have also seen a soprano, in concert, do a somersault after an aria -- the other extreme. What's-Her-Face ( "I know what I'm doing". ) likes to dance while singing in concerts to distract us from the horrors she has put her once-beautiful voice.
