Bro your technique is tremendous in this. Seeing the visuals really helped pull me in. Being a guitarist I can appreciate all the time that went into this. You really put your heart and soul into this and it shows. Congrats!

This is a terrific performance Andrea! Absolutely loved it. I think with this piece Berio really figured out how to write *guitar* music.

Many thanks for that performance, sir. I had almost accidentally followed a link to this video intending just to sample it - but I could not leave and have now just finished listening to the whole piece. It's a technical tour de force, certainly but a lot of humanity too (that whole, achingly sad last 5 minutes). I am slowly working my way through all of Berio's Sequenza pieces (as I'm now 64 I think I need to hurry maybe?) and so far this and number V seem the most obviously 'human' ... knowing the background story of Grock, that sigh of 'Warum' from the trombonist in V always evokes a hundred different reactions in me every time I hear it. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for the time in trouble in learning the piece, playing it, having it recorded in an incredible video and sharing it with us. Very best wishes, Brian.

Thanks for your kind comment! Yes, this piece aims to a complete knowledge of the instrument (as regards technique, gesture and phrasing)..An extensive literature exists about all Sequenzas, in which the authors show the connections among Berio and the instrumentalists he chose to dedicate his masterpieces... Thanks again! :)

Andrea Monarda good afternoon Andrea, I've just discovered Berio's sequenzas and I'd like to know more about ; can you give me some references about this "extensive literature" you're talking about? Thank you very much.

I am absolutely NOT a fan of dissonant music like this. But the technique to express this particular piece is incredible. Plus, as the player, in order to play something like effectively, you have to stop thinking in terms of traditional intervals that you'd find in melodic music. For me, that alone would be something that would be extremely difficult to overcome. That said, Stanley Kubrick could've used this piece in "Eyes Wide Shut." It's an incredibly disturbing piece and would've been the perfect "musical" backdrop for the movie. :)

Fantastic performance, but you should really fix the sync between the audio and video... after about a minute I just gave up on the video, minimized the window and listened to the music alone. Which is a shame because the video seemed nice too.

+Andrea Monarda I mean after two seconds when it starts to be going louder. how did you start to like this kind of music?
@melekcrescent
@melekcrescent 8 жыл бұрын
+milky road It is intentionally dissonant, it is telling a very strange and chaotic story. To me the piece sounds like anxiety, discord, paranoia sometimes, mania. I do not find it beautiful in any standard way, and I bet most people feel as you do - that it sounds horrible. This is definitely not pop music! On the other hand, imagine it paired with a very expressive dancer, or during a tense or scary part in a film. Some people may enjoy the dissonance; it is interesting, different, challenging. I am fascinated by it, find some parts enthralling, but do not like listening to it - it makes me a little anxious. Like looking at a very violent, strange sculpture.

Imagine that music is food. If you eat the same thing, every day, you will be tired of the exact same texture and flavour, you will search another kind of food with different taste. Is the same in music, is just another kind of music texture and flavour.

It's like mountain climbing. Some people prefer idyllic nature walks along well-trodden paths, they're called hikers. Maybe some hikes involve a steep climb at the summit, like an intense symphonic piece, but for the most part they're simple linear paths. Then some people enjoy incredibly difficult and challenging climbs that involve lots of training, extreme techniques, and years of practice to even be able to consider accomplishing. It's difficult to know where to hold on and it's often not a simple way to the summit.

At least there's no learning required, just make up any shite and pass it off as music !!! This is the pretentious rubbish that alienates people from classical music.

+macleod41069 Hope it is visible who is the composer of the piece and which contribution he gave to Music of XX century. He was known, and still he is, as Luciano Berio. He has been also known at Harvard University as "distinguished composer in residence". I do not believe Harvard gives this title to the first person or thing who make up any something and pass it off as a music.

+macleod41069 I see you have a problem, my friend. This surely isn't music for everyone's ears, but to call it "a joke" is disrespectful and shows how much you appreciate styles that aren't "yours". And that means you didn't get the idea of music in the first place: expression of emotions. You're welcome.
