Luciano Pavarotti and Enrico Caruso are my two opera tenor heroes! They both had powerful, beautiful voices, and expansive personalities. They seemed to humbly realize their voices were gifts. They made millions happy. I am reminded of my husband, who was a bear of a man with a passable tenor. He didn't sing opera, but used to belt out Rogers and Hammerstein tunes for the joy of it. A friend of mine shares my love of Pavarotti. When I told her he passed on, she was so sad. That's all right, I told her. He's in Heaven singing along with Caruso, and he lives on in the hearts of millions.
@uppityglivestockian Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Fat Lucy and Caruso sounded nothing alike. In a side by side listen, Caruso and Domingo had the far more similar timbre, color, and range. As none of us alive has ever heard Caruso live, it's bound to be a matter of guessing to some extent, and, well, to being influenced by others we trust more than ourselves. And the highly effective music marketing by the Red Seal Co sales army of that newfangled technology in Caruso's day, of the phonograph record. I pray the latest batch of regia-vandals will move on to Hollywood and Cannes, where they belong, before they cripple stage opera permanently. It is true, the Golden Age of Opera II closed on the last day the living legend Domingo sang as a tenor. The only constant is change. Paz y salud.

Amazing channel and amazing documentary on one of our greatest italian national pride artist.

Very good documentary on the great tenor's career. Surprised to hear Richard Bonynge's name mis-pronounced! It's said "Bonning". I heard Pavarotti in a few 1980s concerts and in Aida and Tosca at Covent Garden. The voice was pure "sunshine" and blended gorgeously with Joan Sutherland's in their classic Decca recordings. Diction and phrasing perfection.
