Why not Plaid? Quality. I won't buy another Tesla until the company truly commits to improving initial quality and investing in their service centers. I live in the bay area, probably with more service centers than anywhere else in the world, and they cannot keep up up with the demand. They also seem to have a problem keeping their staff, too.
@Miata8222 жыл бұрын
@@sirnh Many people hate car dealerships and many dealerships provide a less than ideal customer experience. Nevertheless, if you don't like one you can go to the next, there is seldom much of a wait for service, and the service is very often done correctly and on time. Could dealer service be better? In many cases, yes, but I seldom hear of the same level of intentional neglect that Tesla owners report.

@@Miata822 I totally agree. That's why I replaced my 2021 Model S LR with a EQS 450+. I think Tesla is going to learn soon that they cannot survive on buzz, tech and a dedicated charging network. I half suspect my next car will be a Lucid in 3 years.

Jon, the level of service you received with the Lucid recall is exactly what I experienced with my Model S in 2013. In both cases, I would attribute it to the company wanting to make a good first impression in the marketplace. Excellent review, by the way.

@toddr.lockwood8432 жыл бұрын
@@fredricgrethel1717 It might be an overstatement to say Tesla doesn't care. Tesla has necessarily modified its personalized white glove service from the early days to a highly efficient approach because of the sheer volume of vehicles in the fleet now. Lucid will do the same thing if they reach mass market volume. I've been to a Tesla service center multiple times over the past year, and the service I received was very good. Definitely pro-customer. What Tesla badly needs to do is build more service centers.

*Update* I got my Air GT and have already put over 1,000 miles on it. The lower 800hp drive system is far more than adequate for enthusiastic driving. The car arrived in perfect condition. On a long road trip at Texas highway speeds the range was still more than my bladder. I verified the amazing charging speed as "Faster than Whataburger can make a spicy chicken sandwich). The ride is great, the car handles wonderfully when pushed hard on twisty roads but is quiet and butter-smooth on the open freeway. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times equal the GTR. It can go 100mph with a grandmother lightly dozing in a spacious and comfortable back seat (after she set the 4-zone AC to her liking). Absolutely the best car I have ever been in.

I think virtually ever car model in the last 20 years has a recall for something, most of the time if you buy the car used, you dont realize those things were done already or never check that anything outstanding remains. A lot of it is for small stuff but sometimes not, it's really really common to have a part that turns out to fail over time when you have cars with literally 10-20k parts in them.

As for the Plaid vs Lucid answer, it’s the same I’ll bet for you as why I chose Taycan over Plaid, or why someone would likely choose the EQS over the Plaid. The Lucid, EQS and Taycan FEEL like you’ve spent luxury money on a luxury car. The Plaid will spank our behinds on the road for pure speed no doubt, but I’m fine to sit in a car that I feel much better in. The Air’s range is really the big selling point to me, even the Pure with “only” around 400 miles of range is nice. Only Tesla offers similar range and while the ecosystem is nice, I personally don’t like some design choices from Tesla. And Elon saying you would unnecessarily make a car heavy for a range they don’t use is just moronic, imo. You finally put range to bed if you get over 400 miles of range easily, in real world driving. That, and the attention to detail Lucid wants on their cars vs Tesla “ship every car even if it has the wrong sized wheels”.

Kudos to Tesla for pushing the bar forward, something GM failed to do with their EV1 experiment in the 90s. I really wonder where we'd be now if GM hadn't been so reluctant and backward thinking with their electric car experiment. That said, once Tesla wanted to produce something for the masses, they now, as everyone before them has to do, had to create a "potato" version of their product. A Toyota Corolla is a potato car and so is the Model 3 & Model S. You try to satisfy the majority and offend the few, so you end up with a potato. Fortunately, the electric vehicle marketplace has opened up opportunities for new brands to keep moving forward with novel style ideas. I love the Lucid design philosophy. Lucid had problems with a couple vendors when they received the first real production parts. Primarily the issues were with glass and carpet that didn't meet spec. It seems those problems are being addressed and production should be speeding up. Still, the Air is a mostly hand built car where attention to detail is key. This guy tries to compare to a company that produces 4k+ cars a month compared to company barely producing a hundred cars a month if that and talks about quality which again is not equivalent based on numbers produced.
