The moment he put his arm round Mick Ronson is iconic in British music history.,,

Both very sadly missed 😢 Iconic as musicians and as pop figures... Bowie never found a match after Ronson departure, and he had brilliant guitarists

Yeah.. even his self professed dark days of Cocaine, Pills, Red Peppers & Milk diet? Lol. Dude had bad times like anyone else. I don't find hero worship to be great. He couldn't paint such beautiful musical tapestries without dark times and thoughts. We all have our faults and I adore the man for living through such hardships. Sames goes for his last album and battle with cancer. Admirable af. He is inspiring af for his imperfections, which he speaks to often, in his music.

I loved David Bowie all my life since I was 9yrs old and was devastated by his death. He was so talented and innovative. There will never be another like him 😢❤

The greatest Top of the Pops performance of all time. Bowie raised an army of fans following this appearance and changed Britain forever. Some other Bowie Magical Mometns: watch him perform Heroes at Live Aid; Ashes to Ashes promo video; Wild is the Wind at Glastonbury.

I saw this on Top of the Pops in 1972. I was only 8 but I knew my world would never be the same again. I am still in shock at how good this is.

I think you need to hear this entire album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. It's a concept album about an alien who tries to save earth as a rock and roll star. Other songs to hear are Suffragette City, Moonage Daydream, Five Years and Ziggy Stardust. The entire album is incredible, definitely a must hear!

This was a huge turning point in British TOTP performances. I was a little girl watching this, and instantly fell in love with David, plus he sounded like me being another South Londoner.

Thanks, This is my first time seeing you,, and you now have a new subscriber. It's funny watching the reactions with the live performance. When we were kids listening to this (I'm an old fart) we didn't have the videos. Now we knew, David was...different, from the few times we saw him on his album covers. The time that I grew up in, gay was bad. It took me many years to overcome that problem and most people my age have not. Anyway there's more great Bowie, "Suffragette City" is one off the top of my head. Thanks again, great work, I look forward to hearing more from you!

Yes! Not very Bowie knowledgeable as I was born a few years after this act. However, wow to have FINALLY come across this performance just last month! It's one of the best performances I've ever seen! Special mention to the movie THE MARTIAN for this and showing my 10 year old, he loves it too!
