Got this from an online music article: David Bowie on Heroes, “I always said it was a couple of lovers by the Wall that prompted the idea for Heroes,” Bowie told Classic Rock in 2015, explaining its meaning. “Actually, it was [Bowie producer] Tony Visconti and his girlfriend. Tony was married at the time, so I couldn’t talk about it. But I can now say that the lovers were Tony and a German girl [Antonia Maass] that he’d met while we were in Berlin. I think possibly his marriage was in the last few months. And it was very touching because I could see that Tony was very much in love with this girl, and it was that relationship which sort of motivated the song.” “I’ll never forget that,” he recalled. “It was one of the most emotional performances I’ve ever done. I was in tears. They’d backed up the stage to the Wall itself so that it was acting as our backdrop. We kind of heard that a few of the East Berliners might actually get the chance to hear the thing, but we didn’t realize in what numbers they would. "And there were thousands on the other side that had come close to the wall. So it was like a double concert, where the Wall was the division. And we would hear them cheering and singing along from the other side. God, even now I get choked up. It was breaking my heart. I’d never done anything like that in my life. And I guess I never will again". I just love this story, figured I'd share it with you.

Bowie’s music is timeless and priceless, pure genius in his unique approach to music creation. Sadly missed. Such an endearing response, sensing a sentimentality in her emotions.

God rest his soul, David was always at his very best in his live gigs where he could connect his amazing music and his incredible performances with the live audience. I don't think we'll ever see anything quite like him again. RIP David we'll always miss you.

Your reaction is the the right reaction.... Bowie was just the best groove..... You just have to give yourself over to him.... I was lucky enough to see him live...... I was from the generation that was staunch but he allowed you to not give a fck and just sway

I live in Aylesbury, England. This is where he did his first gig as Ziggy Stardust. They put a statue of David in the town square. So much class and the difficulties he went through in his early days made him appreciate everything he had and made him humbled by the love of his fans who, like myself followed him right from the start. He's one of the worlds greats that have gone too soon like Niel Peart of Rush and many others. ✌️❤️🇬🇧

Thank you dear Rebeka! It's difficult to choose one song by David Bowie, but I remember the first time I heard "Heroes". A teenager almost crying, because I felt as if he was singing to me. The only singer who could recreate himself time after time after time... Greetings from Porto and thank you.

Great reaction as ever Rebeka. Heroes is my favourite Bowie song, especially live. I love his interactions with all the great musicians in the band. I especially like his base player Gail Ann Dorsey. He often dueted with her, there is a great version of Laurie Anderson's O Superman that they do together, and it can be found of KZbin.

The first piece of music I ever owned was Space Oddity by this guy. On the Phillips label, in Mono. I had no money being so young, I would always turn the vinyl over and play the B side. Lurking there was the song Wild Eyed Boy From Free cloud. I had no idea that you could do that with a song. But I was hooked then in that never ending search for new music. So from his first hit to his last I took the whole journey. I love many of his well known songs, but on the B side of his cover of Sorrow was another cover of the song Amsterdam. He didn't just sing it he performed it. I still put it on from time to time. It still blows me away. I once came across an interview with him, and he was asked about his success, he replied that he just got lucky with a few songs. A humble man who enjoyed his fame, but never let it go to his head, and as you see would give it back to the fans. One of the most authentic artists to grace the world, and perhaps because of that, one of the most enduring. Maybe not for the channel, you should give Amsterdam a listen. It is on You Tube. See what you think. His passing was a great loss to the music world, but in new artists, the search for new music goes on. It's always lovely to share your joy of music. So if I don't revisit before then, you and yours be very well, and have a joyful Christmas.

15 years earlier, Bowie also sang this song in Berlin, at the Reichstag, at the Berlin Wall. Just imagine a crowd like this one. Then realize that on the other side of the wall, another crowd had gathered to listen as well. The East German police had their hands full that night.

Bowie. Always a smart ass. I like that. Love this song. Heroes was the first song ever recorded to use compression, which was was why the studio track sounded like it was being squeezed through a pipe. It was considered to be a groundbreaking technique during the late 70s and many artists started using compressors shortly thereafter and is still being used today. Hope all is well with you. Rock on!
