Or is everything for our own good, or our own reputation?" Even after death. I loved that question, and i can't figure it out. Thoughts? Does anyone ever do anything ever just for the good of others? Or is it because it makes ourselves feel better? Which one is it?

They had that discussion on an episode of Friends. Joey claimed nothing is selfless because in the end, you always do stuff because it makes you feel good. Phoebe wanted to prove that wasn't true, so she let a bee sting her "so he could look tough for his friends"...and then got mad when Joey pointed out the bee would have died after stinging her 😂 In reality, though, the question is a false dilemma. Emotions evolved in order to guide us towards positive behaviors and away from negative ones. Imagine you avoid putting your hand on a spinning saw blade: are you avoiding it because it will hurt, or are you avoiding it because it's scary? The answer is both: it's scary *because* it will hurt, so either reason for avoiding it is the same. Likewise with altruism: it makes us feel good *because* it's helpful for others, so those two reasons for being altruistic are the same. Now, you could argue that the only reason we evolved to feel good helping others is because it helps ourselves indirectly, which is true (via the game theory of altruism), but does that take away the selflessness of trying to help others in the first place? I don't think so. In the end, your immediate goal is still to help someone in need, even if that then increases the chances of you getting help later.

@@IceMetalPunk I imagine it depends partially on the ratio of goodness done vs. what you get in return out of it. Donating blood, for example, is a good thing that'll help people, and even if you're doing it just because it makes you feel good about yourself and some locations provide a snack along with it, it's such a minor reward that the good it does far outweighs the negativity of the selfish reasons. But you also have examples of philanthropists who donate huge amounts of money to a charity or organization with the caveat being that they get a say in how the money's used or how the organization operates. In cases like those the ratio can be more balanced and the act a lot less altruistic and more like a purchase. They gave and now they want something equal to it in return.

It feels like a flawed and failed attempt at what it was trying to ask and even Linda' emphasis/enunciations in speaking the line do not compensate. The line makes more sense literally and figuratively when either reworded or restructured; "Do angels' powers shape their personalities? Or do their personalities shape their powers?" or "Do angels' powers shape their personalities? Or are their powers shaped by their personalities?"

As much as I enjoy this show they really made some dumb decisions regarding how strong Lucifer is, in the comics Lucifer is one of the most powerful beings in existence and I know that they can't make him like that in this show but it's shown in later episodes how strong he is in the show when in season 4 Lucifer grabbed a cars bumper with one hand and a telephone pole in the other so the driver who was trying to get away wouldn't but in this episode he couldn't punch his way out of the place the Sinnerman trapped him in cause it was a foot of reinforced steel I just wish they allowed the character to e stronger or at least consistent with his strength

We don't know if his mojo would have worked through the tv. I think the connection is needed where he can see in to the soul, I imagine that the indirectness of the tv would stop it working imo. I think this season is a bit of a juggling act but some great episodes coming up.

This is her entire character and it hasn't changed in 5 seasons. And what's your excuse for her getting in the way of Linda's happiness, also betraying Chloe to Pierce, being nasty to Trixie, using Ella and going along with the plan to kill Amenadiel? Just an absolute waste of a character and easily the worst on the show i wish god would just finger snap her out of existence.

@@timothy5783 the fact that she's been consistently told by pretty much everyone who knows her that she is literally worth less because she's a soulless demon. You don't think a few millennia of that would mess with someone's self esteem? Maybe make them constantly define themselves by their relationship with someone else and cause them to act irrationally when that relationship is seemingly threatened? Her motivations fall under 3 categories: wanting things to go back to how they used to be (before things got complicated), wanting to be important to someone (which is how she derives her selfworth), or wanting a soul (which would give her "value" in her eyes). Literally every act of jealousy or betrayal she makes can be tied to one of those motivations.
