I was lucky enough to cruise in my '71 Cuda with their 8-track tape blaring for everybody who still didn't know who this group was in 1975. Great Days.

That's Mike Starrs on lead vocal, but he sounds so much like John Lawton here it's incredible! Lawton wrote the lyrics and this is on their last album before Mean Machine with him Mind Exploding. It's a great record as are all of them. Unfortunately, this song I relate to more than anything else right now because it's an intense song about being on the run from everybody, everything, and having to face up that you might die soon. Unless I get my shit together my life could end really soon. I'm devastated by nightmares and nightmares that are realities. NO MORE WAR!

One of the best German Rockbands (not Metal) ever, together with Lake, Spliff (Radioshow), Nina Hagen Band and Anyone´s Daughter! Saw L'sF live on their "Sneak Me In" tour ... incredibly awesome!
@benjaminblakemitchner83656 жыл бұрын
You and I have very similar taste. Lucifer's Friend were never metal closer to Anyone's Daughter and especially Lake. The German/European music was laughed at here in the States one more reason why we are stoopid. I think this level of sophistication flies right by too many people. There's a lot of jazz and funk influences, but in a hard edged melodic rock approach. Unique and what makes European rock so great is its experimentation and professionalism.

@@benjaminblakemitchner8365 What a "stoopid" comment. The U.S. produced one of the best artists of all time in Frank Zappa. Who was experimental, influenced by very many genres and just not a artist but a composer. The reason LF was not big was not the ignorance of the American or British listener but simply they were not good enough. Ride The sky gets a credit because it's early and arguably has a Sabbath influence that many people will find interesting. The latter LF sounds like a bad Doobie Brothers/Steeley Dan clone. No experimentation in that. Just a average band trying to play 70's FM rock.

Maybe you're either too old or not old enough, or maybe you traveled in a different circle! I'm only 60 and their first album (1972'ish) was something I'll never forget! Ride the Sky and In the Days of Job(e) When Mammon was a Yippie! Oh yeah, 'Screw me, I'm a tuba!"

Mike Starrs is a good vocalist, but not quite as good as the great John Lawton. I would kill for a decent (classic era) live LF DVD with Lawton, though I might buy *this* DVD someday.
