Promoting her new tv special: "Lucy Moves to NBC", Lucille Ball visits The Merv Griffin Show, 1980. Since that show of Lucy's aired in Feb of 1980, this show was likely taped in January of 1980. Lucy also discusses seeing her daughter, Lucie Arnaz on Broadway in 'They're Playing Our Song'.

Lucy was a tough cookie. You can tell she didn’t suffer fools.

She was smart as a tack, had a great Business sense, even though her gamble on "Star Trek" may have cost her Desilu whose studios had fallen into disrepair. Ms. Ball was the first woman to ever own/run a studio and have successful, long running shows on the air and in development.

Omg, Lucy was brutal in attacking her daughter’s singing, which takes a lot of nerve considering the vocal atrocity Lucy committed in Mame.

Wow! Lucy was far from brutal. And Lucie Arnaz had pretty questionable pitch back in her early days. Lucy praised her, but was realistic. Lucie was no Shirley Jones, or Julie Andrews or Ethel Merman. The bar was a lot higher in those days. And Lucie Arnaz would be the first to admit it.😂

Lucie had a very good singing voice especially compared to her mother's. Why was Lucy ragging on it?

Fire water. It's no secret Lucy enjoyed a Jack & Coke before most interviews to relax. Here you can detect she is slurring her words. It's very noticeable when she appears on Johnny Carson.

She often was too blunt or crass about and toward her children, embarrassing them at times. Ball said something about Lucie that was confidential, and Lucie and her didn't talk for weeks afterward.

Lucy was very controlling ,always the perfectionist. Every interview there’s always a mean side joke about Desi. It takes two people to break up a marriage.

You could tell she had a lot of baggage at this point of time. I noticed she started grabbed Merv hand in a very intimate way towards the end of the interview. Which tells me she was looking for something else in her life. Reading body language is a skill that takes decades to master. But I could tell time wasn’t kind to Lucille Ball, but no one noticed because she hid it with laughter. But Lucille Ball really did love her children after watching many interviews.

The "black" one you speak of was considered family. Lil' Lucie has spoken about her publicly many times and considered her their 2nd mom.
