The woman who will always be remembered as the crazy, accident-prone, lovable Lucy Ricardo was born Lucille Desiree Ball on August 6, 1911 in Jamestown, New York, the daughter of Desiree Evelyn "DeDe" (Hunt) and Henry Durrell "Had" Ball. Her father died before she was four, and her mother worked several jobs, so she and her younger brother were raised by their grandparents. Always willing to take responsibility for her brother and young cousins, she was a restless teenager who yearned to "make some noise". She entered a dramatic school in New York City, but while her classmate Bette Davis received all the raves, she was sent home; "too shy". She found some work modeling for Hattie Carnegie's and, in 1933, she was chosen to be a "Goldwyn Girl" and appear in the film Roman Scandals (1933).
She was put under contract to RKO Radio Pictures and several small roles, including one in Top Hat (1935), followed. Eventually, she received starring roles in B-pictures and, occasionally, a good role in an A-picture, like in Stage Door (1937) or The Big Street (1942). While filming Too Many Girls (1940), she met and fell madly in love with a young Cuban actor-musician named Desi Arnaz. Despite different personalities, lifestyles, religions and ages (he was six years younger), he fell hard, too, and after a passionate romance, they eloped and were married in November 1940. Lucy soon switched to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, where she got better roles in films such as Du Barry Was a Lady (1943); Best Foot Forward (1943) and the Katharine Hepburn-Spencer Tracy vehicle Without Love (1945). In 1948, she took a starring role in the radio comedy "My Favorite Husband", in which she played the scatterbrained wife of a Midwestern banker. In 1950, CBS came knocking with the offer of turning it into a television series. After convincing the network brass to let Desi play her husband and to sign over the rights to and creative control over the series to them, work began on the most popular and universally beloved sitcom of all time.
With I Love Lucy (1951), she and Desi promoted the 3-camera technique now the standard in filming sitcoms using 35mm film (the earliest known example of the 3-camera technique is the first Russian feature film, "Defence of Sevastopol" in 1911). Desi syndicated I Love Lucy. Lucille Ball was the first woman to own her own studio as the head of Desilu Productions.
Lucille Ball died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, age 77, of an acute aortic aneurysm on April 26, 1989 in Los Angeles, CA. Three memorial services were held for Ball. She was cremated and the ashes were initially interred in Forest Lawn - Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, where her mother was also buried. In 2002, Ball's and her mother's remains were re-interred at the Hunt family plot at Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown, NY, in accordance with Ball's wishes to be buried near her mother. Her brother's remains were also interred there in 2007.

I’m pretty sure that the fireplace out back was an homage to the episode where Lucy and Ethel took apart the fireplace that Ricky and Fred built because she thought that she had lost her wedding ring in the cement. They rebuilt it a little less perfectly then the original one!

Its a barbecue that Ricky and fred built but then Lucy lost her ring 💍 and she thought it was the bbq. Which it wasn’t. So Lucy and Ethel rebuilt the BBQ. One of my favorite episodes. I guess the owner years ago put a bbq like the one Lucy built. Which is a good idea.

Here is the Bottom Line. Lucile Ball was and is the biggest star we ever had here. When Hollywood's elite would come on the show, Lucy would be portrayed as a star struck person. It was the guests who were star struck. Her appearances on "What's My Line" were legendary. The panel on the show knew royalty was in the building. Lucy was the first woman who not only ran but owned a movie studio. Lucy and Desi started The Indian Wells Country Club where The Bob Hope Desert Classic was played for many many years. Again, the biggest star we ever had around here. Thank you again for another terrific program.

Well, I have to make a correction: In order to arrive at Lucy's childhood home you had to drive west out of Jamestown and enter the village of Celeron, where she truly was born. Her grandfather owned the house. Jamestown has always claimed Lucy as their own and that's okay, considering the location proximity. A side note: My grandmother lived in Celeron as a young married woman, taking her children to a local park at the water's edge and met Lucy, as a youngster, there several times.

Great Job - I'll never forget the time period in my life when I first heard about the death of Lucille Ball. I was 21 and in the Military. During the same week of her death, I received news that my grandmother had passed away. I was very close to her. We used to watch I Love Lucy together. I was able to fly back home on emergency leave in order to attend her funeral. I was one of the pallbearers. Just before she passed away she told my parents to tell me that she loved and missed me. That was a difficult time for me.

Thanks so much for this upload, Scott. Lucille Ball was a classy lady in the truest sense of the word, she never, EVER, bashed ex husband Desi Arnaz, he likewise, never EVER, bashed her publicly. Sadly, daughter Lucie Arnaz has felt the need to air the private marital issues in several interviews, (shame on her). Lucille Ball knew her audience instinctively, she knew what she could and could not get away with, much like her friend/protégé, Carol Burnett. "Life With Lucy" was her last tv show, sadly cancelled before its first season ended. Indeed, she was a fan of both John Ritter and his show, "Three's Company." Two stars on the "Hollywood Walk of Fame?" maybe one for tv and one for film? Ball was known as the "Queen of the B's" before moving to the the new medium of tv, which was a much better place to showcase her talent, RIP

When news broke out Lucy was rushed to the hospital, everyone ran to church to light a candle and pray. They suddenly believed in a miracle. Sometimes l think why can't we do the same today? There is so much hatred, violence and anger today, this should all be a lesson to all of us that we all need to pray for one another every day. Not wait for something to happen and then expect a miracle. I remember watching a program one afternoon when the I Love Lucy theme suddenly came on. Shocked and uncertain, l waited. Suddenly, Lucy came on. She was on to announce of Desi's death. You could easily see the pain in her eyes. You could easily see she had been crying a lot. Though they had split for years, there still remained a bond between them. Not just having a family, but the years of struggle they went through, there was still a closeness between them that continued. Even into today's world.

I had a very abused and neglected childhood and "Lucy and Ricky" were my surrogate parents, in my mind. We actually met them both when I was about five years old and we lived in Southern California. I clearly remember them being surrounded by horses at some event and me running up very excited saying " It's Lucy O -Ball !"...Lol. I thought that was her name. Great video Scott! I still watch I Love Lucy every morning. She was a pioneer of the industry being the head of the studio. Such an Icon. Crazy she and John Ritter died of the same heart condition.

Seeing the photo of Lucy with John Ritter reminded me of they both died of the same condition (torn Aorta). Ironic isn't it. Another enjoyable video Scott. I'm also reminded of a Film Lucy made called Stone Pillow one of her last films so I believe. x

Loved seeing where Lucy grew up, it looks beautiful there. My Mom told me when she was a teenager she watched the show during its run and I remember laughing so hard watching as a kid. Such talented lady, loved this Scott ❤️
