Lucinda. Incomparable. Saw her in London a month ago. 72 years old, two years after suffering a stroke, couldn't play guitar... and STILL brought the house down. She is one in a million millions.

What I love about Lucinda is her sound lives somewhere between cow-punk, alt-country, 80's country, pop rock, Americana, etc. This is a sound that comes from the heart and creativity of an artist, instead of someone infatuated by "making it" in the music business.

Steve - indeed! Players at this level of talent don’t just join up with anyone. Lucinda writes hella good music and really inspires great players. Her band at Austin City Limits was a lot bigger and everyone was outstanding in that group too. But I absolutely love this nasty guitar work. It’s perfect for her, and the bass and drums are so solid. Damn big sound for just drums, bass, Strat and rhythm Tele. Lucinda always plays with finger picks AFAICT. A thumb pick at the very least.

@@andyinoregon what? really? Lucinda wrote this and Tom covered it?
@andyinoregon2 жыл бұрын
@@susanramirez7700 Absolutely. Lucinda wrote and recorded it in June of 1988 for her 3rd album "Lucinda Williams." Tom Petty covered it in 1996 for the soundtrack of the film "She's the One." After watching her play the hell out of it on the PBS show Austin City Limits, I got to see her play it live in a Portland club in 1989 (sitting on the floor 10 feet from Lucinda and her producer/guitarist Gurf Morlix). She cracked us up when she said she saw more old hippies in Portland than in any other city on tour.

@timothymeehan1816 ай бұрын
Saw her twice at the SF Fillmore, myself, in the early 2000’s. Love her. Love her music, love her studio albums. But she’s underwhelming as a live act. Certainly doesn’t have “the performance gene” that Springsteen & certain others have. I think it’s a lack of depth in her singing voice. She sings from the neck up. Unlike a Van Morrison whose voice begins behind his knees and travels through every in of his body before it comes out of his mouth. I think a voice coach could’ve helped her sing from a deeper place, and made her more compelling as a live act…

Saw her last Thursday at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Over 70 years old, recovering from a stroke, didn't play guitar, used a chair back for support occasionally and still crushed it with her incredible band. The voice is still so strong and heartfelt and she did play this one. Ended the show by doing a kick ass cover of hometown boy Neil Young's Rockin' in the Free World.
