Lucinda Williams is the genius in front of this music. This is her original Rough Trade band (Gurf Morlix on guitar, Donald Lindley on drums and Dr. John Ciambotti on bass). This is where it first all came together.

Who can resist the name Gurf Morlix? It's like saying 'I want more' while choking on Cheerios.

Lucinda's voice and songwriting are just divine. IMHO Gurf Morlix here was the guitarist that most suited her voice and songs.

My favorite Lucinda song. Perfectly encapsulates that feeling of being in love.

exactly why i love it so much. i've had multiple crushes in my life and the stuff you feel in these moments is EXACTLY like she describes here.

she is an amazing artist. she interprets her feelings like a brush on a canvas. she captures and draws her life through lyrics and music. when most see shadows, she sees and feels the details.

Come on Austin Texas crew.. release this on a dvd and cd combonation.. it is a once in a lifetime event never to be repeated.
@standstill06415 ай бұрын
In fact it's only available on dvd secondhand and never on cd.. So please consider a dvd cd combination before she's dead.

Austin City Limits was my introduction to so many great artists over the decades, including Lucinda Williams in 1989. Just a few months after this PBS concert aired, I was sitting on the floor in front of the stage of an intimate club in S.E. Portland watching this same lineup. So good I never missed Lucinda when she played the Pacific Northwest. Memorable show at 1993's Bumbershoot Arts Festival in Seattle ... on a stage under The Space Needle!

I can see and hear this over and over. Everything is so beautiful and elusive. Is it her indifference and concentration at the same time? Pure genius and iconic.

lovely comment perfectly captures Lucinda it's that ability to see the inner light shining through the everyday feelings you said it better when just waking up and starting a new day is important I just saw her in Toronto and wished I'd brought my daughter (14 years old) just so she could see one helluva grown woman

I love the country singing days of Lucinda's singing. She's a bit laid back and mellow over the past decade. Girl used to be able to belt it out like Loretta Lynn's understudy. She never has done even an average album but with how great West and Car Wheels are, people can forget just how great her self-titled debut and Sweet Old World are.

This song came across my recommendations on the Tube. So I remember the now Gurf was Bill T. When he was young guy and living in Hamburg NY. He sold me an old Guild guitar that was in bad shape so took to guitar repair guy who fixed up guitar and played it for next 20 years. Has come a long way since, nice guitar work here Gurf…..weird name though…

LW is always amazing. Been a fan of hers for a long time, but this video reminds me of Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) - just because of her eyes. And the guitar player looks a bit like James Manke.

This is from the first of two Live From Austin Texas DVD's in 1989. She said it was the first time they'd played to such a big audience, and they'd never experienced such a loud applause. Didn't distract from the performance though. I wonder if Gurf still has that jacket.

If he were jimi hendrix or daune allman, he wouldn't be the genius behind her voice. Gregg Allman is proof of my statement. He made a living for almost 50 years after DA was gone. Voices like these 2 have don't come along every day.

That's guitarist Gurf Morlix, who produced her 1988 album "Lucinda Williams" and its follow-up, 1992's "Sweet Old World." Just months after seeing this performance on ACL, I was siting on the floor of a Portland club just spitting distance from Lucinda and Gurf.
