My brother swore by that Pong game but I never bothered with it because I thought it was just regular Pong lol.. Same with Frogger! I have them.. I need to actually get around to playing them! Final Fantasy Tactics was so great! Of course FF7 as well.

I’m telling you, for two player games in the PS1 I’d be hard pressed to think of a better time. Also because most multiplayer games at the time I preferred on n64, but man do I have fond memories of pong man. You should give it a shot with your kids. It might even be 4 player compatible. And frogger is stupid fun multiplayer. Can’t go wrong with tactics or 7.

I appreciate the suggestions about the HD to Component cables -- I found that information lacking in a lot of other retro console recommendations and discussions, and that was my biggest fear about delving back into my PS1/PS2 library - the quality of the picture on a modern TV. Once I can procure a replacement PS2, I'm going to give those cables a go! Thanks for the guide!
@LukesGamerRoom Жыл бұрын
So happy to help. Bear in mind the cables don’t plug into hdmi. They plug into the retrotink that then allows you to plug into hdmi. However just the cables alone will improve your visual quality substantially if you have a tv that still allows component hoon up. Your fears are very warranted but the good news is that with this set up the games look incredible for ps1 and ps2. The retro tink also works with any other console that hooks up via composite or component. So it’s a great investment imo. Most people are fine with the 2x. The 5x is what I have and now they are coming out with a 4k version that is nuts

Awesome video man. You put some really good work into this. One thing I was wonder why you didn't recommend a PS3 for playing ps1 games?
@LukesGamerRoom Жыл бұрын
Good question. Several reasons. Ps3 are more expensive. They are historically less reliable. And it’s less user friendly. Need to go though a start up screen rather then just hitting power. And I just have very little love for the system in general.
@wclem Жыл бұрын
@@LukesGamerRoom understandable, especially the not being able to boot directly to the game. Though I do wonder why you don't like the system. Is it the games or were you just an Xbox guy then?

Guilty I was def an Xbox 360 guy. Didn’t get the ps3 till my wife (then gf) surprised me with one Christmas of 2012. A year later ps4 was the new hotness. So I picked up all the ps3 exclusives I missed. God of war 3, was uncharteds, infamous 1 and 2, and metal gear 4. Then last of us of course. But largely I still remember it being 600 dollars and all the problems and just don’t have much fondness. It’s the only console I don’t have hooked up to my tv atm too. Is it fair, prolly not. But is what it is lol. It’s also a pain to capture footage off of because of the hdcp blocking

Hi Luke! A solid recommendations! I also really like MGS and Legacy of Kain. The last one started my interest to metroidvania-style games though I have never beat it. Btw ps3 is also backwards compatible with ps1 games and it has hdmi included. But it’s not so cheap as ps2 :)
@LukesGamerRoom Жыл бұрын
Yea ps3s are too “modern” at that point. I wanted to capture more of the essence of playing it when the system was current. And also ps3s have too many issues and take up so much space too. I don’t even know if you use memory cards in them! Lol
@off2cdawizard Жыл бұрын
I know you recommend the composite cables or retro tink, but have you tried the PS2 hdmi cables? I've heard some good stuff about the pound hdmi cable, and it's relatively cheap. As far as recommendations, gotta recommend the Vigilante 8 series. I played the hell out of them on N64 and they're both on PS1 as well. Excellent vid my man!
@LukesGamerRoom Жыл бұрын
Never even heard of them but haven’t heard great things about composite to hdmi cables, not that they aren’t a good option. I’d say go for it esp if it saves 140 bucks lol. Will have to pick it up my dude I’ve seen the cover forever lol
@off2cdawizard Жыл бұрын
@@LukesGamerRoom the pound hdmi cable just plugs into the PS2 and has an hdmi connector at the end, so there's no extra wiring to mess with. I do have a slim PS2 lying around so I might give it a go when I have the money

When playing PS1 on PS2 there is a some what rare problem in fact I've only ever noticed it with one game. The first disc of the X-files the pointer turns into some kind of abstract bull$π!t playing it on original hardware I've never seen the issue
