As a Coloured (mixed race in SA) youngster aged 16, I met the late great Lucky Dube in Newcastle, South Africa in 1994....it was so amazing indeed as he even waited for me to get a PEN (that day, like no 1 had a permanent marker that i could borrow) so that he could sign my shirt!!!!! We spoke a while and then he wrote "All the best to you, Wayne! One Love, One Nation " and signed it "Lucky D". I treasured that shirt for over a decade......and always showed it to my friends; relating the story to them. However, a domestic worker had once seen it hanging on its own in my cupboard .....and seein the writing on it, she washed it......i almost died when i returned from work that day!!!!!!!! In Lucky D's words..."it just the way it is" i suppose.........But, the memory of meeting and conversing with Lucky Dube is etched in my heart n mind, forever!!!! One Love, One Nation Jah Rastafari!

I was in San Andrés Colombia , an island in the Caribbean when I first heard Lucky Dube's music . I was fascinated with this rhythm . Lucky Dube gave a concert in San Andrés some years later . It is now the year 2023 and I am still listening to his music !!!

Yes mi bredda you are so right lucky dube brought sweet jamaica to a stand still at reggae sunsplash in 1991 they real loved the vibes, at the time jamaica didn't know what to expect because they hadn't heard of him, but when he came on stage everbody was feeling irie, yes bob marley was truly blessed his music shall live on, but jah music 🎶 is not just about one man, too of the greatest reggae artists to live were [Delroy Wilson & Alton Ellis] these where too of the god fathers of jah music 🎶 right from the start i have been listening & buying jah music 🎶 for 46 years in that time i have seen many many artists inna England, Jamaica, East Africa & West Africa i feel truly greatful & blessed too have travelled & seen so many lcons & legend's of this truly blessed music 🎶 that as spread to the four corners of the world 🌎 i have around [60 thousands] tunes & [30 thousands of them are [Vynel record's] so after seeing so many artists [Live on stage] i can tell you this [LUCKY DUBE] was truly on a "Different Level" from everybody else, for those who have not been blessed to have seen him [LIVE] just listen to this great "Icon & "Legend his music tells a story of PEACE LOVE & UNITY & LIFE, i had the fortune & pleasure to have seen him live they will never be another [LUCKY DUBE] again. Live in Jamaica 1991, Lucky Dube stunned the world by an electric performance of Roots Reggae sound they had never heard and was invited back to stage for an extra 25 minute long encore. “He was something out of this world,” Ronnie Burke the director of the show told The Jamaican Observer as he recalled of the night. “We took a chance on him; we liked his music but we had never seen him perform before,” If I were to look back at the 18/19 years of Reggae Sunsplash I'd say he was one of the most outstanding performers we ever had. He was so powerful that even our staff ran to the front of the stage to watch him,” His music was real, authentic reggae, he sounded like Peter Tosh.” “We've had outstanding performers like Bob Marley, Steel Pulse and Third World but Lucky Dube's performance was unlike anything we'd ever seen.”

Lucky Dube was the guy. He took reggae business to another level. I had the chance to watch him and his band live in Maputo, back in 2006 (a year before his murder). Whilst the concert’s flyer was focusing on UB40, Lucky Dube and his band took the whole audience and electrified it. RIP the King!
