Even the victorians used hotbeds at the bottom of their cold frames. Fresh horse manure at the bottom, tamped down to slow the speed of decomposition and heat production and stretch the period of heat production.

It looks so much better with the wood chip and once broke. Down you can always pop on your beds. Great job 👍

I crave woodchips, lol. We are too far from town to get any delivered. I do chip my own when we have trees come down and/or the weather prunes them for us. I do have an unlimited supply of goat and horse manure since I buy in roughly 100 tons of hay every year, but seriously, wood chips are the BEST for pathways. I have woodchip envy. :).

wood chip paths look brilliant now! dam cats! loved the emoji! I would have chased it away. its so frustrating that they crap away from their own households! I would wood chip or mulch around the red currants as saves of keeping the grass down under them.

Malcolm, something simple that will be great! Ready?!? At your pond: Put some of those big rocks into the water to cover the plastic. Then do the wall thing you have there on top of those rocks up the hillside. It will look beautiful I promise!!!!

It's amazing how a carpet of woodchip changes the look on a plot. Makes it look amazing, it's shocking how much heat u get off the woodchip, u could make good compost out of that.

I've just used my 2 yr old woodchip paths and spread them on my beds.. they were basically compost and a free, fabulous resource feeding the soil with worms in abundance. One thing I would query is that gravel path... if you cover it with woodchips you'd have to remember not to do similar on to your beds re gravel.

Good job Malcolm. We get rough woodchippings dropped on our site, I mulch my raspberry canes with it, works so far. Just a cacaution about using your good woodchip as a hotbed in the pilytunnel. It does get extremely warm, might spontaneously combust in the warmer weather ...be warned. Pat

Woodchip paths are the best and when the woodchip is free and plentiful it makes it worthwhile. Looks fantastic Malcolm. I love the look of a newly woodchipped path. And your veggie beds will benefit from the beneficial bugs and beetles that like woodchip as their home. Good times indeed. 👍🤗

Wood chips will last quite a while before breaking down, maybe years, it won't look it's best, but we have a pile over winter which still looks good and will be very helpful over the spring/summer in

Wood chip and hot bed - seems like a good idea. Shouldn't have an ammonia fume problem. L.L. Bean tee shirt - haven't seen one of those outside Canada /US.

Guess what I have just found ? Wood chips for free !!!!! your paths look so good now and I bet it is soft and comfy under the foot ! All the hard shovelling is done , you need to enjoy seed sowing now . Thanks

The huge farms here for blueberries and raspberries use loads of sawdust on their ground around the bushes. Once they start the process I’ll video it. Paths look fantastic and so bright and tidy. I’d be happy just to see grass but still under a layer of snow 😢. Have a fantastic week stay safe, Ali 🇨🇦

Malcolm, it looks amazing! What a difference new path chips make! Thanks for the videos - between never ending snow and frozen ground and now having Covid, my gardening days are currently on hold…but it’s “always sunny” at your plot!
@thifasmom Жыл бұрын
Very pleased for you. It might be an idea to put a row of bricks down to edge the path that ends in front of the red current bushes, just to prevent the chips slipping down that small slope off the path.
