I want to say this is the power of the Lucky star: It grants mario near perfect luck, emphasis on near as he can still technically get caught or hurt if he's not careful (Such as the one plant tongue grabbing his shoe or the various defeats in Lucky Mario vs Impossible mode Bowser) as such if the event or obstacle is too impossible for luck to overcome it will fail
