I am the rider. Thanks for all the comments and feedback. It was a little luck and a little skill. I was really going for max lean and a photo op. There were lots of PoPo and so my speed was slow coming up the hill and I dropped to 1st. When I came out of the corner and went back on the gas my torque was high and she started to slide. Some dirt bike experience made me stand and gave me feel. The slo mo is very cool.

i dont get it how so many riders tend to lean their bikes that much, while they hold their bodies in a more upright position. this only makes the bike reach its limit sooner. if these guys realize how much of an improvement it will be to lean their bodies while keeping the bike more upright, they will be amazed that save was partialy luck. the bike also helped, since its much softer than a superbike, and its touring tyres are not that accurate and grippy. all that helps the mike to react more progressive

how difficult is it to learn how to lean?
@NeoEletto247 жыл бұрын
Kasam It's not difficult,it's you against your fear...
@dimosk73897 жыл бұрын
Kasam it's not difficult but it's counterintuitive. Your brain can't process the fact that you are "falling". That's where a riding-racing school can help a lot. There, you will learn the limits of your bike and yourself in a safe environment I just got a new bike 3 weeks ago, which is totally different class from the more sporty bike I had. So, what helped me learn it's limits safer, was to follow a couple of other riders with similar bikes on a 2 day trip we had through mountain roads. I knew their bikes were older and less grippy than mine, so I just followed their pace. You could try something similar if you can't join a racing school

"i dont get it how so many riders tend to lean their bikes that much, while they hold their bodies in a more upright position. this only makes the bike reach its limit sooner." Because riding a motorcycle is not all about "reaching its limit later rather than sooner". You really don't want it to reach its limit at all, no matter what you do on the bike. Some riders lean their bikes in more than their bodies simply because it is easier and quicker for them to lower the bike down (thus increasing G) while keeping their bodies upright rather than to lean off the bike to the inside, countersteer and pull more Gs that way. They can pull high Gs very quickly and easily that way. Maybe they can't pull AS HIGH a G as if they were to lean inside the bike because as you have noted they will reach the edge of the tire more quickly for a given G, but they don't need to reach as high of a G because they are not stupid enough to ride to the tires' G limit on the street. ...to the limit of the tire or the chassis, depending on which is lower. Similarly, don't assume that anyone will be amazed if they ride the same way that you ride. Especially if you're not willing to try to ride like them. I think this is the lesson that so many riders tend to ignore. You don't need to pull high fucking Gs on the street. What you *do* need to do is pull enough Gs soon enough. If you take a 180 deg corner at a given speed, which way would you prefer to take it? Pulling low G for half the corner and pulling high G for the other half, or pulling medium G for the entire corner? If you can maneuver the bike into and out of a moderate G configuration more quickly and easily using one technique than another, than the first technique means that you can pull Gs more easily and get out of the corner more quickly and easily and it reduces your peak G loading and means that you can ride more safely, farther from the limits of the tire. Also you can respond more quickly to changes in road-conditions. And the fact is that we very-rarely see the peak limits of performance in street-riding in any sane way. And this doesn't even consider the fact that even using proper technique you still might not be capable of extracting the maximum G from the tire and chassis because the road isn't perfect, road-conditions are not perfect, your riding-position isn't perfect & the tire-pressure, suspension and weight-distribution aren't perfect. Your theories of ideal good riding are only theories, their practice is a regular thing.

His body position is way off, keeping his ass off like you should but his upper body is leaning inwards instead of into the corner, causing the bike to lean more than himself. He also closed the throttle as soon as the back tire started sliding out which causes the bike to get it's grip back way too fast and often results in high sides. On top of that his throttle control is jerky which was what initiated the slide. Conclusion: he has got no idea what he's doing.

A lot of people giving him shit about body positioning but for anyone who hasn’t ridden a fazer thou it’s actually a very difficult bike to move your body position on unlike a sports bike. The stock seat is quite restrictive for some reason, I remember switching bikes (I had a fazer 600) at the time and feeling like a paralysed jockey at the Kentucky derby. Least he saved it which I always like to see over someone wrecking their pride and joy.

Maybe for a larger person? I had no trouble with mine after not very much seat time either.. everyone is different. It would help if he wasn't almost counterleaned.
@meusana36818 ай бұрын
I kinda disagree, but to each his own. The seat Is wide and flat, making it a bit harder, but I find it easier to ride than most sport bikes for the mere fact that you don't put your weight on the forks. I did Enduro x for a while too, when you lose it you get your front wheel to find it's own grip without leaning on it, full weight on the back and let it self settle. I don't think that's very practical on a bike where you literally have to keep your body weight up with your knees. I'm also a smaller rider, by far the 2006 fz1 has been the most comfortable and intuitive semi sport I've been on. Sv1000 coming close second (nearly bought one instead)

@7pH7 жыл бұрын
It lost grip the second he went full throttle again. Closing the throttle in this case, caused the weight of the bike to want to go forward, which actually causes de bike to upright itself. He didn't counteract that (I actually think he could have easily in his situation, but the danger in other cases could be the front wheel moving out by closing the throttle quickly, especially on wet roads), shat himself because his line went out, went full throttle, fully closes it again as he feels he's breaking out, and almost highsided himself. Lucky he didn't pull the clutch (in that case the rear wheel would have found it's grip so quickly, the man would have been flying for a few). Rule number one: keep everything gradually and stay calm. And learn the physics behind two wheels. His body is placed wrong on the bike in the first place, also. His head should also be on the left side of the bike, and he could break his feet this way (dam'n last edit xD)

Nice head work in keeping your cool and riding through it instead of panicking and losing it. Around 0:23 he chops the throttle and then twists it hard again upsetting the back end. Looking at his left foot dragging, by guess is that his peg scraped which startled him momentarily enough to come off the throttle but then realized what happened and tried to get back in it.

So what happened here was that he was leaning the bike and not himself. You always want to keep the bike as upright as possible. The more The bike leans over the less rubber is touching the ground.

I've been told by people far more experienced than I, that about half the road holding 'feel' of your tires is on the sidewalls. The main thing is to not fight your bike. If your bike wants to lean into a corner you need to lean with it.
@adityasriram34218 жыл бұрын

+Loren Husky Have you seen Valentino Rossi ride? He always tries to keep the bike as upright as he can for the speeds he's going. That's why he hangs off so much, so the bike doesn't have to lean as much. It gives more traction through a turn and it saves the tires. Then there's the slide, a whole other level of turning mechanics and tire conservation.

He did cut the throttle, and he did it very rapidly(Look at his wrist action). What saved him was the bike's damping, him not going on the brakes, sitting loose, yet strong, and most importantly, countersteering! What you do is not have steady throttle but to roll off very slightly, if your throttle was not too much you wouldn't have broken traction, and keeping that will not get the bike back, as long as you are not a pro in drifting bikes! His body position is all wrong, his throttle control is atrocious and what caused the problem(throttle on, roll off, throttle on - bike bounces weight back and forth, rear wheel loses traction, then he cuts throttle and almost highsides as a consequence as his sliding wheel regains traction sharply, you can see him almost get ejected over the handlebars: hint the video is running at less than half speed, if you use x2 speed playback option you're still not quite up to full speed, but his almost getting bucked off is more noticeable).

Lucky is an understatement you can see by his riding style this is week #2 of being on something bigger than his Huffy BMX bike

See how a steel chassis flexes and is more forgiving, the whole bike squirms around until it finds where its happy 😊 😀 😄

hurts to watch. If this guy continues like this he gonna fall at some point. Horrible riding skills
@obnxsdonky93943 жыл бұрын
the reaction was insane. he has the skills, clearly (you know the video was slowed down, right?). and yes, hes inevitably gonna fall. we all do. its a well known corner on a well known road, and had plenty of onlookers. Im sure conditions were okay to push hard. thats definitely a skill/reaction of a 1% rider
@graphite21043 жыл бұрын
@@obnxsdonky9394 Bro this guy literally is a beginner or he just never learnd from his mistakes. his throttle control horrible. You can see him going on and off when the throttle should be closed trailbraking into the corner then when the time comes you pick up the throttle notice the "pick up" that's when you only give it 5 10% gas so that you prepear the rear tire for the load that's about to come. That was not 1% rider skill. Happend to me as well and i don't consider myself a 1% rider hahaha. But my situation was with a beast of a bike, 300 2 stroke enduro that i usually have supermoto but that day i had enduros on. It was raining like crazy insane wind and at a round about i didn't even lean, 5% gas and my rear slides on me like crazy. Closed the throttle and the bike came back up? does that mean im a good 1% rideer? hell no conditions were shit and honestly if you would've leaned 10 degrees with enduros you would've fell. With the conditions that he has bro that should've never happend. That is poor throttle control poor bodyposition etc. talking about body position. his lower half is kinda out and the upper body is straight? what is never seen before style since the early 2000? wtf

Shoulda done this, shoulda done that.... body position blah blah blah. Sir, my hat's off to you for saving your ass and not crashing the bike. I hate everyone who criticizes riding position. Your riding position got you home safe = good enough. Great job for not panicking and handling the slip. We need more riders like you on the road.
@TheWheelLifeChad11 жыл бұрын
looks like his left foot peg levered the bike off the ground. You can tell if you look at his left foot during the vid. His left shoe is practically (or is) dragging on the ground during the whole turn and then he starts to lean in more and BAM rear end looses traction. Thankfully he had the skill to recover.

agreed, I'm not suggesting he needs to get his knee down just pointing out correct positioning to do so. I don't ride on the streets getting my knee down either, thats for the track, apart from some practice work on a small section of dead end road near my home where there is no traffic.

Some people criticizing his skill, but maybe he hasn't been riding that long, and you have to give him credit for saving it

So he's probably NOT an "expert" rider but he's damn good and he seems to know his limitations and how to handle his machine. Plus there is clearly something about that area on that curve it doesn't appear to be decreasing radius but everyone loses it there.

Not luck - this rider knew exactly how to get out of that slide without high-siding or low-siding. Got up off the seat at :29, and allowed the bike to find itself again without fighting / forcing it.

The early 80's bikes would slide around really predictably.Now bikes have limits way out there.I miss my 83 KZ 750 Sports. It loved drifting it.The next bike I had was the 84 900 Ninja 900.WAY farther limit's.The drifting party ended there. : (
