Here's a clip from 1984 I believe of Lucille Ball on The Tonight Show with Joan Rivers. it's such an easy and warm interview. You can tell both women have a mutual respect and admiration for each other. And, being a lucy nerd lol I listened carefully at the end of the video, while Lucy was leaving, and the heartfelt exchange between Lucy and Joan is just so nice to hear "Love ya Honey" "Have a merry a christmas, and happy anniversary! " "Thank you, God Bless as always" 2 Legends make on good clip! dedicated to Lucy-Joan and the punchy players lol

@ Shut the fuck up with that. Joan is just as much a legend as Lucy. Not only did she have a name for herself back then she adapted for the new generation and continued to have a name for herself years later with fashion police and her own show melissa and Joan. The woman was a hard worker and a big influence. Do you know how many people showed for her funeral? She had celebs in tears on TV just talking about her passing. She was well respected. She had people, like me, who isnt even from her time and wasn't even born when this show aired still going back and watching her much older comedy clips because she was not only popular then, but also popular during my generation during the Fashion Police days. THAT is the definition of what a legend is. Someone who influences many generations and have them going back and admiring their work many years after their death. You know why I'm watching this clip? Not just for Lucille, who is also legendary, but also for the other legend interviewing her, joan river. It is great to see two women comedy legends in the same room supporting one another. It was a good time in history. Dont ever try to discredit her decades of work and contributing to her industry.

@Jim Roc You can shut the fuck up with that ignorant nonsense as well. Johnny Carson was a douchebag. And it is sad that she waste time being a good friend to him when he wasn't one to her.

As I look at all the old videos of Lucille Ball in interviews, she is always humbled by the response people have for her. She and Desi Arnez always gave credit to the wonderful writers of their show. That kind of writing and humbleness is lost in the hollywood of today. Writers today seem to only be able to use crude, foul, language and situations to get a laugh. Belly laughs that I love Lucy brought died with those wonderful writers and actors and actresses. So thankful to be able to see and hear the humor of old through video.

Same here! I’m 52 and the biggest Lucy fan ever! My whole life, I’ve loved Lucy…. I was a latchkey kid, coming home to an empty house when very young in the late 1970’s….. my mama never had to worry tho…. I can remember racing to get the mail (that was one of my chores)…. Flying in the house as fast as possible….locking the screen…. Locking the door…. (I had it down to an exact science time wise!!) Racing over to turn on the TV so I didn’t miss any of the Lucy Reruns (our old TV took about a good minute to warm up and turn on)…. They played the I Love Lucy reruns on channel 12 KPTV for 2 hours, back to back…. I’d make a snack during each commercial break…then race back to the couch as to not miss anything… I had a very traumatic childhood…. That show gave me a much needed break. I didn’t have much to smile about, or any real laughter in my life at the time. We Love you STILL Lucy 💕❤️🙏🏼💕❤️🙏🏼💕❤️🙏🏼💕❤️🙏🏼

Lucy was so shy and introverted in real life...She would not appear on the show if Johnny was the host because she thought he was much more talented and spontaneous than she was...How wrong she was...But she truly loved Joan Rivers, and would appear on anything that Joan hosted....God Bless Lucy!

This is so cool and a great memory for me. I just found this video. I was in the audience, when this show was filmed. We had no Idea that Lucy was going to be on the show, or even that Joan Rivers was hosting. I think I was the first person to stand for that ovation. In my opinion, Lucy will remain timeless. So many of us can, still to this day laugh, when watching I Love Lucy, as we did when we first or for the 20th time, watch her show.

She has many times said that she was not a comedian but that her writers were the one's who made her the star. She was ahead of her time and the shows were enjoyed and still are many decades after they were made, the I Love Lucy reruns. She admitted how proud she was of the show on the interview with Joan Rivers. She was very intimidated by Johnny Carson and on the air admitted that to him. It was obvious how uncomfortable she was on his show but she seems to like Joan. Yes she is missed and we all Love Lucy!

The standing ovation that Lucy received was well deserved, unlike today, when the audience stands up for virtually everybody who appears on the stage. Watch any late night talk show: Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmell, James Corden, and you will see standing ovations at the drop of a hat. If everybody gets a standing ovation, then it doesn't mean anything anymore.

Back then we had something called civilized behavior before celebrities returned to the animal state, and conversation was intelligent and on a high plane. There was graciousness, politeness, no four letter words because they had talent and a large vocabulary and didn't have to rely on profanity to fill in sentences, very unlike what passes for entertainment today. You really are joking aren't you? Hollywood has always been an absolute cess pit. The only difference back then was that it was all brushed under the carpet because people were so deferential and wouldn't question anyone in authority. As one small example, a lot of stuff has subsequently come out about Johnny Carson. Behind the scenes, he was a cold, unpleasant man who spent most of his life drinking and chasing prostitutes.
@bethvirginiaphillips4583
@bethvirginiaphillips4583 2 жыл бұрын
@@th8257 I am very aware of Johnny Carson. His former friend wrote the book about him. What I am saying is that what people do in private is one thing. Hollywood was always naughty. Lavender marriages were arranged by studio heads if one or both..man and woman..were homosexual. Orgies were common, all types of the basest of human behavior. BUT..it was not done in public. When I see classy films like The Thin Man with William Powell and Myrna Loy, it was witty, sophisticated and totally entertaining and no one dropped the F bomb or was seen screwing each other. Everything was subtle. You forget that Myrna was a bi-sexual who had a big thing with Janet Gaynor (it was said) or that Powell had a number of ex wives. What you saw was a civilized movie with perfect casting and excellent direction. What changed was that all abnormal behavior and crassness have become mainstream, even available to the smallest child. This is what I mean. People have always had that fallen nature...it seems to be more common now and darker and people have no shame and see no problem proclaiming it in public, calling it entertainment.

+Tara E Girod,She mentioned that she was not funny and it was her fabulous writers that made her famous but it was Lucy's talent and we all know that in the 50's not everyone could take on those parts as well as she did.

I loved the fact that she used to applaud her own audience, as if she was saying "I'm a fan of my fans!". That's truly great!

I adore the respect Joan always showed Lucy. She is more than a legend, she was a walking national treasure. I hope they can feel the love that still radiates to them.

If this was 1984 Lucy would be about 73 years old. What enormous talent she had and to the very end she was a great raconteur with so many interesting anecdotes.

She used to sneak up into the rafters of the different sets on the Desilu lot and "watch" production from above so no one would notice that the boss was in the room. She finally got busted when she laughed out loud during a scene. While many have gotten credit for making "Star Trek" on TV possible, it was her who green lighted production for what was then the most expensive show on TV. And to this day, people still see the "Desilu" logo at the end.

There will NEVER be another Lucille Ball. The fact that she is still as popular now and perhaps even more so now, speaks volumes as to her long-term appeal, her comedy, her class, and of course, she is so vocal as to how appreciative she is of the reception she gets everywhere. No, many will try to copy her style, but there was only one and there will never be another. Lucy, we miss you, but thank you for the legacy you left, and impresion on so very many people.
