Written by fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen, his will always be my fav version, but.............WOW Lucy nailed it and I know Leonard would be beaming "rip" down on her version. Lucy starts with little accompaniment and that alone was amazing... then it's kicked up ++ notches and the production behind Lucy building her up to new heights is hands down the best cover I've ever heard. She has unique inflections in her voice as well. She will go very very far in her field. ***** 5 stars from me..

Lucy's rendition is the best I have ever heard in my professional opinion and I have heard dozens over the years. Lucy doesn't copy music, she improves it. Every song she has performed is as good as, or even better than the original. I have a standing bet that no one will beat her rendition of 'Hallelujah'. Even if they copied her, they can not surpass her. She took a classic and made it her own.

Where on EARTH did she get this gift...she didn't. It came from God. You'll never hear a better rendition or arrangement either, from the build into the modulation and "come down" at the finish, just magnificent. And to think she's only something like 18!

@@sess122 Thanks for comment. I have a standing bet that no one will ever do a better cover than this one by Lucy Thomas. Even if someone copied her, they would still fall short. Check her mouthing shapes when she goes into the crescendo at 3/4 mark. Lucy is altering the sounds by changing her mouth cavity. Add tongue and mouth opening, she has mastered a new technique. I have never seen it done like this. It blew me away. Lucy's physical performance; hands, eyes, head, body, all help listeners to connect to the emotions she is performing. On top of that, she has perfect vibrato while mouthing sounds, this is very hard to do. Easy to control it on a word, but ooo's and ahhh's it becomes very hard. Her vibrato is so accurate, it is 1/4 note plus or minus. Doesn't matter the pitch, volume, or how long she holds a note. I wish I had her breath control, amazing.

Bluegrass Cohen lament shortly before he died he wished people would quit covering "HIS" song !!! I think he was just jealous other people were singing the song better thn him, but then too that gravel voiced old guy could not carry a tune in a bucket !!! 'Hallelujah' was the very first song I heard Lucy Thomas perform... I almost fell out of my chair. I had to play song over and over to make sure my eyes and ears were not playing tricks on me. I have over a decade of singing and acting, I have never heard or seen anyone do what Lucy does with her vocals and physical delivery. By the time she hits the crescendo, she is approaching full forte, her mouth is forming sounds in ways unique to her. It continues and her eyes, mouth, head, hands all connect with the listener. They become emotionally invested in the song too. Lucy's typical performance; there is 1 mic, 1 camera, 1 take start to finish. No edits, no flashy video, no auto-tune. Her sound engineers love her. Near perfect pitch every single time. Lucy has a huge 5 octave vocal range, she has mastered breathing, her vibrato is so tight that it doesn't vary more than a 1/4 note up or 1/4 not down. On top of that, she can go from soft to loud, high or low, long or short notes with perfect placement. As she holds a note, her volume is consistent, her vibrato perfect. I have yet to see her take a breath, it is completely transparent. When Lucy Thomas performs, it is as she is singing a solo just for you. She is standing right in front of you and you are completely memorized. That is the Lucy Thomas affect on her audiences. Leonard Cohen is smiling from Heaven while watching her perform his classic song.

@@SJR_Media_Group i put a lot of comments on these sites to promote Lucy. Most of the time, it goes straight to the trash. Sometimes, after few days or weeks , they looks about Lucy. It is very difficult to promote someone in KZbin. I tried to share the link of Lucy singing : broken dreams...after 4 or 5 comments , all the other comments where erased by KZbin. Until now i can comment but without links. Looks i have been classified as spammer.😟

She got my attention and to think this young lady was only 16 when she sang this song !! She is now 18 as of 2022.... she has restored my faith in singers as most "singers" today use so many gimmicks, wild hair, piercing, gobs of goofy make up and most of their bodies hanging out, all diversion because they cant sing !!! Lucy is the real deal, a beautiful natural young lady, modest and oooooh so talented, she has the range said to be 5 octaves, the quality the depth and she puts her emotions into her songs !!!! And the frosting on the cake she has a 5 year younger sister she has recorded 7 songs with, check em out, The CLIMB, THE PRAYER, HOLY NIGHT, SAY SOMETHING, YOU RAISE ME UP, THE PRAYER !!! @@SJR_Media_Group I wholeheartedly agree, never thought anyone could surpass Jeff Buckley's version until I heard Lucy's, now virtually every other Hallelujah pales into insignificance. Lucy's majestic voice is totally once in a lifetime stuff, she has the soft purity and beauty of vibrato as the likes of Eva Cassidy and Karen Carpenter but with the range and almost gospel like power of Aretha Franklin and even crazier when considering she's still only a youngster and will only continue to improve as she matures into womanhood.

Even if someone copies her, it won't be as good. Lucy is doing things with her mouth during and after crescendo that changes the depth of her pitch. I have over a decade of singing and acting. Lucy did this amazing rendition of 'Hallelujah' at only 16. This year (2024) she is 20 and has over 70 songs on her KZbin Channel including the musical written by Chris Broom just for Lucy entitled 'Rosie' that is to premier in the West End of London in 2025. She has some songs with her 5 year 8 month younger sister, Martha that are stunningly beautiful. Lucy has become the world's best vocalist. Checkout some of her most recent videos of 'Unchained Melody', 'One Moment in Time', and 'I Dreamed A Dream' all released this year (2024). In answer to your question is there a better version of Hallelujah my answer would be No! In a very different kind of way I think Jeff Buckley's version is arguably on par with it and Jonathan Antoine's version is not far behind it but ultimately Lucy's is becoming my favourite.

I received her CD Encore on the 21st from Amazon Prime. It took 11 days from Merry Old England to wild west AZ. I ordered her CD Premiere and Amazon says it will arrive on Friday. I also ordered a signed copy of Timeless from a company called Music Glue and the arrival has not been sent to me yet. I suggest that if you enjoy beautiful music performed the exact way it was meant to be listened to, order her CDs. BTW, I am not connected to Lucy or her music company in any way, just totally enjoy her singing!!
