The way Cecil sniffs and says " a villa " gets me every time lol.

In a film with so many superb actors playing brilliantly, Daniel Day Lewis simply steals the film. He nailed the character of Cecil so perfectly that 35 years on I still marvel at it. This was the first film I ever saw him in, and what an introduction it was.

Cecil is a very quirky character. Rather strange and unintentionally hilarious. He's played with comedic brilliance by Daniel Day Lewis who I don't really associate with comedies so it was refreshing to see. I cannot see him and not think "I drink your milkshake!" Funny bit of information, James Ivory said Hugh Grant had auditioned for the role of Cecil. But Ivory found him too good-looking to play the character buy they remembered him for Clive Durham. Grant who is known for comedies played a serious role in Maurice. So the reversal of roles.

@@mareksicinski3726 he is kind of quirky in a sense that he's odd. I would even consider him a dandy which at that time was a peculiar kind of man.

What a great movie! I can watch it over again and again and still enjoy it. I don't think I can name another movie with that many talents! Maggie Smith, Denholm Elliott, Judie Dench, Simon Callow, Daniel Day-Lewis, Helena Bonham Carter, Julian Sands, Rupert Grave... Oh and the soundtrack. And of course, James Ivory and Ismail Merchant would never disappointed us!

I purchased this movie on a whim and by accident as it was paired with a movie called Mansfield Park [I am a Jane Austen fan]. Little did I know that this will be one of my all time favourite movies. The first character I recognized was George Emerson as I'm a huge fan of Rose Red lol. So, that was a funny coincidence. Cecil Vyse though, is by far, my fav character lmao! Fun fact: A segment of this film was featured on Gimore Girls.

Daniel Day Lewis- actor of all time- not like Hugh Grant and those who are the same in every film. Daniel goes in and out of character with never the same characteristics- a timeless actor of the greatest skills.
