Silverton is a small village at the far west of New South Wales, Australia, 26 kilometres north-west of Broken Hill. At the 2016 census, Silverton had a population of 50.
Silverton sprang up after the discovery of rich silver deposits, although it was soon eclipsed by an even richer silver-lead-zinc ore body at Broken Hill. The town is often referred to as a ghost town. however a population keeps the town alive as a tourist destination.

Another fascinating place. The Hotel is the kind of place we like to stay. We have spent many nights in historic old hotels in mining towns in the US. The only ones in Australia have been on Tasmania and also in Kalgoorlie. They might not always be the most comfortable but they make up for that in character. Silver/silverton that makes sense! So mamy interesting building and so interesting to see the bonesnof it and sometimes just a shell. That silverton hotel looks interesting so glad you had a chance to quench yoir thirst! Those donkeys were ao sweet! The burgers and other food looked like a good lunch and yes muat finish it off with a beer! Another nice walking trail.😊

Great walk around Silverton! Sorry to see the old buildings falling into disrepair… they are still charming. Seems like most people have moved away now. Still, it has great history and you can get an idea of its past by taking a walk along the streets. Yum, your lunch looked delicious! 👌👍👍🌻🌻 The donkeys were cute… reminds me of old ghost towns in California or Nevada!

Many of the people moved away when the Mines in Broken Hill were needing miners as it was yielding Silver, Zinc, Ore and Copper. The only thing that keeps this town alive is the Tourism and a few locals, otherwise everything would certainly have crumbled. The highlight was finding those Donkeys. I new they were around, it was a matter of time before they showed up. I believe there is a town where Donkeys roam the streets in the US. Thank you for watching.
