It's definitely a good idea to keep the bathroom neutral because it is so expensive to redo. Also there is nothing wrong with a tub/shower combo and even keeping a non-freestanding tub (my husband is a carpenter/contractor and has mentioned that they tend to cool down quite quickly in comparison to box tubs as the air around the tub inside the box acts as a sort of insulation from the greater home air flow). Also it's great to see a more average person reno including the realities of difficulties and costs. Very few people can afford the massive renos we tend to see influencers do when they buy a house.

Why don't you just move the door to be centred to the bathroom? that way when you're in the kitchen it's looking at the bath rather than the toilet, especially if you did a freestanding feature bath and a feature tile on that back wall. Then you can just put the towel rail to where the door currently is. You could also do a cavity sliding door rather than a traditional swing door to save space :) - I'm an interior designer btw and one of my favourite spaces to design are small bathrooms!

My recent bathroom renovation has been the absolute BAIN OF MY LIFE. I also wanted to move my toilet but couldn't and then when we ripped out the hideous corner bath, discovered that the top of the structural bit of the stairs went into the bathroom. So my options were to either brick up a window or build my bath on a platform, and i've gone with the latter. I got a gorgeous freestanding bath from Victoria Plumbing if you haven't looked there yet! It's amazing how obsessive you get over tile samples isn't it 😂😂 Can't wait to see what the bathroom ends up looking like 😍

Hi Lucy, thinking through bathroom Reno myself currently, you’re right it’s a nightmare. Just thought I would share a view on the freestanding bath shower combo. My mum has one of these and it looks stunning, but in reality it’s awful. You can’t take a shower without your head getting wet unless you have a very long flat bottomed bath because you are always underneath the shower head.. The shower curtain goes all the way round inside the bath and you stick to it because you can’t get away from it. If you had the freestanding bath with a shower attachment on the taps you could at least wash your hair in the bath, but trust me if you like a strong jet stand up shower that doesn’t go in your face unless you’re double jointed, go for an upgrade on what you have now with the screen. Crital style screens and indented shelf all make it feel more modern if that’s your thing. Can’t remember the layout of the hall but could always move door into the bathroom to the left so that toilet is now behind a wall. Keep us posted!

YES, speaking as someone who bought a house with a white tiled bathroom floor do not do it! Get the dark wood! Lucy, the bathroom reno is so exciting! Those picks look amaze! 2 pieces of unsolicited advice: consider where you put the drain in the tub. Lily Pebbles put hers in the center (granted she has a 1 year old), and she regretted it - it was in the way. And for the white grout for the wall tile - that can also dirty really easily. It may sound horrible, but check out brown grout. The first time I saw it, I was shocked by how much I liked how it looked. Just a thought. Can’t wait to see the finished product!!!

Every DIY facebook group has posts about layouts and people are just like 'move the bathroom to here and the kitchen there' 😂. You're not alone most people have no idea how difficult and/or costly it is, plumbing is a huge job and soil stacks in particular aren't something you can just move willy nilly. Your bathroom idea sounds nice, I've redone my small bathroom and have redone a shower over the bath and it's still an amazing transforming don't worry.

Love the tiles for the bathroom! The wooden floor is really pretty and would look lovely but I would not recommend it for bathrooms. The water/humidity can damage the floor, create mold and make the floor warp. Unless you are extremely careful, clean up every little puddle, maintain it by putting seal treatment (or whatever it's called) over it regularly and air the bathroom so there won't be too much steam but even then it can happen over time. Tiles would be so much easier to maintain and you wouldn't have to worry about all of that

Lucy, just a thought, and maybe it has already been considered-or maybe isn’t even a potential for consideration at all, but what about moving the bathroom door over so it doesn’t look right in onto the toilet? You could even make it into a pocket style door so it doesn’t interfere elsewhere in the bathroom? I would think that would be less expensive than the attempt to move plumbing would have been, no?

This is my kinda content. I spent last year designing my bathroom (and eventually getting the work done) and doing a mammoth cross stitch (which is still a work in progress). Love the neutral choices. Have you considered the splashing that will probably occur with a freestanding bath and overhead shower? I really wanted to go freestanding but space was limited so I sacrificed it for the practicality of the watertight rectangular bath with glass screen. Also went for a bath filler instead of taps as I really don’t like cleaning taps! But I realise that look is a bit modern and not for everyone. I got a tiled bath panel as well which helps it look a bit more upmarket than the standard plastic.
