For the 20kV diode you checked last, why couldn't you use a DC power source instead of a transformer? Also, why didn't you flip over either of the high voltage diodes? Thanks much for the GREAT video!

I dont think id use the led tester. All of my diodes read the same voltage drop except for one, it must have had just a few internal diodes gone bad and had a voltage drop of a few volts less, I believe it was underperforming compared to the others and it wouldnt have been recognized with the led test.

Why do you need to add a 3.3 KOHM resistor in series for the circuit to measure the diode voltage drop? Can’t you just connect the diode directly to the voltage and measure? Or you want to limit the current to try and save the diode

You can’t. You need to make an oscillator circuit to drive a transformer off of a dc power supply (a battery or rectified wall power, any dc power source you look for) and then rectify the output of the transformer

It's not that important, 0.25W will be fine because it's a small current and it's used for a short time.

He already did high voltage diodes. If you mean the semiconductor it is not that easy. It is possible to create primitive diodes but not a proper one.

Some simple early radio receivers used a "cat's whisker" diode which has a point contact between a fine wire and a suitable crystal (not bonded). Try searching that term or crystal radio, you might be able to make one quite easily!
