Happy ThorsDay!!
I have been wanting to deal with this one long snaking branch on my Jewel Orchid. These little jewels are such a joy to propagate simply because the cuttings don't die on you even if they don't take root. They are really tough plants and given the right environment are such a joy to have.

I love, love, love the comparison and the before/after in one video! It’s something I always wonder about, but can hardly ever find. I had to propagate my jewel orchid after an accident and chose water. Sort of forgot about it and when i saw the roots i was curious to find more information.

About 3 to 4 nodes, with only one to maximum of 3 leaves on one propagation. If leggier, or with more leaves, it'll struggle/take longer. Or shed leaves, as shown on your multi leaf props. I love the side by side comparisons ❤️👍🏼✅ And your hybrid, I've got too 😍 they're harder to get, the roxibergii Spiderman 😍 jewlorchid

Nice video. I would suggest that You take as many leaves as possible from the stem because the plant is using energy to the leaves and actually the leaves are not important the roots are. Also on the top piece the last leaf should also be removed. Then the nodes have nothing pushing against them and can therefore take in more water. I have propagated mines often to make it fuller. The piece that has taken on roots after another 2 weeks can be cut in two and both put in the soil. I suppose this videos was done in summer? In fall or winter it’s a bit different unless You use a greenhouse. I am currently doing an experience with the greens or an enclosure box with a heating pad and it takes much longer. Water is the best method. Thanks for the video though. I love Your English accent.

What a gorgeous plant! I just looked it up on Amazon and I found that it's a rare and expensive plant. That's probably for the best, because I don't think it would do well for me. We have high humidity here in the eastern US, but my house has air conditioning. Are you able to keep plants on your balcony all year long? Ps, I LOVE your propagation stations!
@WinnieLuthienThye
@WinnieLuthienThye 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Bonnie! Yes I can keep plants in my balcony all year. Tho the first half of the could be too hot for some aroids, but they grow quickly. In the 2nd part of the year the sun moves a little behind my balcony and the monsoon season starts. During this time the aroids are lush and plump but dont leaf as quickly. And ... the succulents either die or go into dormancy.

@WinnieLuthienThye
@WinnieLuthienThye 4 жыл бұрын
Took quite a while. Cos I grew it from 1 plant. So I had to keep cutting and rooting and replanting it back into the pot to fill it up. And then wait for it to grow out again before I can repeat the process. My plant was bought in April2018

@@sugasmilo2329 hahaha!! why? They grow considerably quickly. If you started with a larger pot with a few more branches, it would be much faster. My plant came with just 1 main branch that I could cut and propagate. That's why it took longer.

Thank you for this! Currently rehabbing a ludisia discolor I inherited with 3+ feet stems 😅 have you had any luck getting stem pieces without foliage to root? I have them cut into several pieces about 12 inches long in a jar of water. I’m hoping to save as much as possible!
@WinnieLuthienThye
@WinnieLuthienThye 4 жыл бұрын
I have but you have to becareful with them. I cut mine to 3 or 4 nodes. So even if one piece rots, it doesnt affect the whole stem. They do tend to rot easier in water than those with leaves if you are starting with no protruding root nodes. Change the water every 2 or 3 days. Dont let it sit in the same water too long as the oxygen in the water will be used up and the stems will rot quickly. I would also cut 12 inches down to maybe 3 parts.
