Ludwig Auditorium model reheading and clean up.

Installing a new P85 strainer and re-heading a Ludwig Auditorium model. When did Ludwig go from 3 ply to their 6 ply shells? Please post your answer in the comments with the year!
The Ludwig Auditorium model was a special production drum that featured a feaux Mahogany finish wrap (Later when this finish did appear as an option on all drums, it was called Mahogany Cortex).The drum was a decent school band concert drum at 6/12 x 14. It came out as shown in their 1957 catalog and was shown in each catalog thru the 1975 as well. It continued production until around 1979 when the Percussion '80 catalog came out and did not show this model listed any longer. In 35 years of repairing, I cannot say I have seen this particular model.

Great video Jim …. I love watching this stuff. It’s first officially mentioned in the 1980 catalog (released in 1978!). I still have mine …. It could have been the drums in the 1976 small pocket catalog (I have that one still too!) … but it’s not mentioned. My answer is 1978! And like Claes said …. 6 Ply Maple no re-ring!

Nice one Jim! I think they went away from the three ply re-rings (in favor of the 6-ply maple shells) in about 76-77. Thx for sharing. 🥁👍
