Brother, not only is Mark not the only one (ppl think he was a prophet, he just connected the dots), he just parroted what others have said for years before him. If a company is alive, with a free product you use, 9 times outta 10 you're the moneymaker. Either that or there's some behind closed doors deals going on. The rare examples of it not the case are hard to find and verify to be true, and even then I'm still sus on. If anyone were to do the research into honey, they could've come to the same conclusions as this one dude (not mark, the honey vid guy). He just made it palatable and consumable. Just learn to research, learn to have fun being curious, and have fun doing research dives.

@wrmsnicket18 күн бұрын
Unless the person selling you the product made the product themselves, this isn’t a good analogy. Ludwig is right, the best practice is to make it clear to the consumer who is getting the credit for the sale. This is why the analogy in the video is effective. If the cashier point-blank asked the customer who’s to be credited for the sale, they’d say the original salesman without hesitation. Now if Honey managed to save the customer a decent amount of money, they might be more open to sharing the credit with Honey or opting to give it all to Honey. But the customer is given no options and isn’t even aware of what’s happening. That’s the issue.

I think a lot of people don't seem to understand this affects everyone, not just creators who have been sponsored by honey. Linus was used as an example. But a smaller tech youtuber could have a referral link in their description. If the user clicks that referral link and has honey installed as an extension, then honey is most definitely taking the smaller tech channels commission. I say most definitely because like stated by megalag, who wouldn't want to click it to find a better deal. So it's not just 'millionaires' affected by this lol.

@maxleveladventures13 күн бұрын
The problem with this phrase is that it's a little misleading. It implies that you're not the product if you pay for the product. But we're all still products even for many of the things we pay for. Netflix, Amazon, credit lenders, etc., they're all profiting off data they collect from us, even though we're also paying them for a product/service. So we are product and consumer at the same time. This is why virtually every one of the largest corporations is also a tech corporation behind the scenes.
@jasonschuler225610 күн бұрын

Because it’s hard to say if it’s really malicious in nature. They need to make money somehow, they make it by slightly less optimal discounts and by getting commission on sales. It’s not their fault last click is the standard practice, that’s just how it works. They aren’t purposefully stealing from content creators, they’re purposefully making them the last click, with a byproduct being that it overrides from content creators. The worst thing they’re doing is being secretive about it, but that’s the cost to the consumer for such a product. If anything it goes back to the whole idea of due diligence, creators should be aware of stuff like this. Honey will fight for money, creators should fight for money. Such a great moral stance, where people make it clear that they are uncaring a*sholes before acting like that. Very commendable. Seriously, that is no defence. It is just being upfront with being an a*s.

bruh ludwig completely skipped over the part where honey isnt just scamming people using affiliate links but also the consumers, they dont get the best discounts possible because they partner with stores, and in their partnership the stores say which discount codes to be used from honey, so their whole point of getting the best discounts possible is completely untrue, this is huge and ludwig completely skipped it over

I dont think people actually understand what is being alleged. It's not that honey sells your data (they probably do) that's not a scam that's a business model, the same one on this website. It's that it switches referral codes and probably doesn't give you the best discount codes. The loser is the content creator not you. You don't lose anything
@xelasneko18 күн бұрын
"Sells your data" "You don't lose anything". Huh...it seems like we all lose except the company.
@dumpsterplayer270018 күн бұрын
well they also hid the best code from you if the business paid them so..

only if the consumer doesn't use coupon codes every time they shop
@KuroFoxxo18 күн бұрын
You missed the part where they don't even give you the best discount codes at times, and have apparently stolen *EXCLUSIVE* personal discount codes from consumers' email inboxes. Furthermore, consumers that use affiliate links to support their favorite creators lose because they don't know that the commission went to PayPal instead of the creator they wanted to support. Honey lets businesses control which legitimate coupon codes can be automatically inputted into checkout, which RESTRICTS savings, which was the opposite of the entire point of Honey.
@TheKrigeron18 күн бұрын
They hide the good coupon codes from you and convince you there are no better alternatives, they also prioritize their own coupon codes. They advertise this to businesses, meaning the business can simply jack up their price by 10%, give Honey a 10% coupon code, and everybody wins except you who would've had a 30% discount on the original price.
