I think the banana flavored Runts still have the old banana flavor(Gros Michel) too. It's also not extinct and you can still find it in Central America, it's just not exported anymore because it's still too susceptible to the fungus for large scale cultivation.

Some of the candies are acquired tastes and you need to know why they're popular to appreciate them if you're not from the US Hershey's were made with the first industrial process for milk chocolate and the milk ends up fermenting a little and American consumers got used to that flavor where to me chocolate without it just tastes a bit hollow Tootsie rolls are chocolate taffy and were the first individually-wrapped candies, kids could buy them for a penny Edit: Banana Laffy Taffy tastes like Gros Michel bananas, the old type that basically went extinct. Or maybe like they smelled? I've obviously never had one I'm 25.

Fun fact: Candy corn is made with butter, honey, corn syrup, and vanilla essence. If you’ve ever not been able to put your finger on what candy corn tastes like, it’s a combination of honey, butter and vanilla mixed through a simple caramel. The reason it has its unique soft texture is because the butter doesn’t allow it to crystallize into a hard crunchy form so it stays soft. It’s….definitely an acquired taste, I don’t completely hate it but it’s hella mid.
