In long form content, you at least get to choose to invest your time in them. In shorts you can only go the next video. And the algorithm throws more and more trash at you the longer you watch. That's no accident. Researchers have found that it's way more addictive for the humans brain if the consumer only finds satisfying content occasionally. This way it actually feels like a reward to find a good video, because you had to 'work' to find it. Even if they didn't explicitly code that into the algorithm, it's only natural for an AI to adjust to that. They're actually treating us like monkeys and in return we start to behave like monkeys. People need to understand how bad this is. They're feeding everyone absolute garbage 90% of the time, willingfully accepting that this time is a complete utter waste to the consumer. Even drugs are more viable. At least they make you feel good while the trip lasts. The only joy in shorts is occasional mild entertainment for hours of our time.

I watch yt shorts pretty frequently. It only works if you carefully monitor what you watch, if a video isn't from a channel you regularly watch, immediately dislike and click don't recommend this channel. The other day I made the mistake of scrolling past a short from a channel i haven't heard of instead of disliking and clicking don't recommend this channel, instantly the only shorts I was recomended were total slop and not at all the content I wanted
