Im dark skin and let me tell you... it was a mental struggle. I had teachers joke about my skin color. I was always the darkest in my class, and was called tar baby and midnight. Do y'all know what that does to a child? I didn't want children simply because of that. Now im married and can't wait for our cocoa babies to arrive. Love on your kids because the world we make them feel less than. We also can't discount the experience of others by saying its a copout. I was in middle school not wanting kids simply because i didn't want them to be tormented the way i was. I was suicidal and was depressed. No one wants that for their kids.

Honestly....I don't even blame him for wat he said. It's not his fault. The people around him bullied him so bad to the point where he doesn't think he's worthy. He is the product of other people's mentalities. I know somebody reading this has made remarks about someone with his skintone when they were kids. Whether it was callin them "midnight", "charcoal", "burnt", etc. You might not have saw it as a big deal back then, but things like that stick with people. It only took one person to tell me somethin about myself ONE TIME back when I was in 6th grade & from then up until 2 years ago, I was always self conscious about it & hid it. Black Allah my godsister is light skinned and has a dark skin mom and light skin dad, both are african american. Its possible. See it everyday. Even my daughters are light skinned. And I’m dark skinned. Shit, it dont even matter at the end of the day truthfully.

Yessssss Luenell!!!! I also compliment our BEAUTIFUL darker hued sisters and brothers, SINCERELY! The colorism issue is crazy and unfortunately, very real, and originating from the colonial slavers. It's up to us to bring this shit to a halt, and with a quickness! As Black people, we have a HOST of things to focus on, and just being BLESSED enough to have been given a HEALTHY baby should be good enough.

My dad had a complex about his complexion yet taught me to love mine(I'm only a few shades lighter than him) so I never had issues with being dark even tho I got teased I knew I was...AM beautiful. I feel sad for people who dont like who they are.
