I am currently growing luffa. Your video explained the short stems due to growth between male flowering. I thought I had a pest eating the plant. Now I know it is normal. Thank you. 🎉

FYI TO THOSE NEW TO GARDENING. Plants that have female and male flowers benefit from hand pollination. FEMALE FLOWERS have the fruit attached so just rub the males stub 😅 against the female's. Unless you have a bee farm or tons of flying pollinators around these types of plants benefit from human help. I do this to all my plants with male and female parts, i shake my tomato and pepper plants to help them as thats how they work and same with my corn ❤. Remember the female has the baby growing from her as a way to tell ❤😂 love laugh grow ❤❤❤

I have a question, I'm new to gardening so please don't mind me asking.. do I need to wait for my patola to grow a stem before exposing to sunlight?

I grow luffa in Virginia. I developed one that I call Virginia Huskies luffa. A cross between the common luffa and an apple. They look about the size and girth of a football. As part of a number of Luffa growers in the United States, Canada, Estonia, France and Colombia South America, it is a fun plant to grow and process. I am mesmerized by the luffa vines and I am always guiding them on their trellis to grow where I want them to. I've been hoping a time video like this was out there. I will share this video among my fellow growers. I have videos on my youtube channel, but also have a Facebook page called "For the love of luffa-loofa". I would love for fellow luffa growers to like and submit pictures and experiences.

Im learning to grow these, but every flower that blooms is hacked off, im thinking wasps cause they had a nest right to it. Got rid of the nest but i cant get a single bloom to grow they are on the bottom of the plant everytime i check😊

I love this video! I know understand why my flowers keep falling off. I seen you tap one flower to another…if that how you pollinated it indoors. Can they pollinate each other? I’m sorry if this is a silly question, first time grower. My vines are big and beautiful but I still have no luffas. I planted them 3.7.23. Do the vines come back year after year? Thank You so much for sharing. I seriously needed it ha ha
@eLapseTime Жыл бұрын
Yes, you'll need to hand-pollinate flowers by gently rubbing male flowers to the center of female flowers. They won't come back year after year, unless there are some seeds from last season dropping to the ground.

I'm not really sure mine, but for this type of plant, its vines can reach up to 30ft in length, if they have enough space.

Not worth growing if you have short growing season needs 4 month minimum for vine to fully mature.
@slickbelge Жыл бұрын
I think you must have done something wrong here.. perhaps not enough phosphate ratio? most Luffas i have grown will immeditaly flower both male and female flowers. I have never seen luffa flower male-only for weeks or more, followed by female? I think you done mess up there, buddy
@candywalker483 Жыл бұрын
This is my 2nd year growing them and the males on mine bloom almost a month before females. Zone 5b. Females don’t show up until days are a little shorter and temps a little cooler. Others have told me similar finding. Maybe the climate makes a difference.

@@candywalker483 That is really interesting. i have never experienced this. I wonder if different varieties flower differently?
