Part of the issue (atleast for me) was the fact that, alot of people act like the toon force is unique….and thus some reality breaking thing in the series Whilst ignoring the fact that One Piece has always had mid level toon force We’ve had 1000+ chapters of stuff like, Luffy pulling notebooks out of thin air….Nami being able to hurt the monster trio…….eyes popping out of heads…..characters breathing fire…..Brook and Luffy regrowing teeth from milk…….. *characters rarely dying* and everyone can accept that as “ahahaha One Piece is just goofy” but the moment Luffy gets Gear 5 all of a sudden One Piece is a hyper grounded and realistic world and Luffy is a reality warper Gear 3 is deadass toon force based, but we don’t take it as such because we were given some hand wave explanation that we saw as realistic within the bounds of OPs already unrealistic world…..Gear 5 should apply the same It’s more *the world* having toon force generally and Luffy being able to play on that with his rubber powers…..not necessarily *Luffy having toon force* IMO

@@Kurotama11 Luffy doesn’t have rubber powers for one. For two, eyes never popped out of heads besides Usopp in that one part in the manga. You can’t use anime because it’s not 100% accurate to the manga as it includes filler scenes. Gear 3 isn’t necessarily toon force based it’s based on Choji from Naruto.

Two, it happens hella……Perona way back in Thriller Bark….Luffy in Dressrosa…..Ussop *and* Sugar in Dressrosa…..Ivankov in Impel Down Those are just ones I can think of off the top of my head Gear 3 is toon force based because Luffy is making his fist a *multitude* of times heavier by *blowing air into it* and it’s based on Tom and Jerry……not Choji

I use to be reluctant when people said OP fans cant powerscale for shit but man my eyes have been opening lately to just how bad it really is. Our community might be the worst there is at powerscaling its own verse. To hammer the point home, a couple weeks ago i saw a poll saying who's stronger between Zoro and Kizaru... Oda smokes? Unfortunate. My mother used to smoke, as well. Her COPD took her from us less than a month ago. I hope he kicks the habit. Being a mangaka is already a stressful enough job, as is. I'd hate to think of how much extra stress he's putting his body through with cigarettes. I'll try to be patient with him, but I'm really hoping for some good news regarding a certain character sometime this year. It's been a rather tumultuous one thus far, so I could use the mood-boost. But, again, his health comes first. So he can take as long as he wants... just hoping he makes some positive life changes and sticks with them. It won't be easy, but that is part of what makes it worth the effort. Just like with a From Software title. They wouldn't be even a-quarter-as-fun if they made their games for journos.

@@Vagabondkana Thank you for your condolences. Hopefully she's in a better place now. It actually wasn't long before/after Akira Toriyama passed. They died within the same twenty four hour period. I decided to hold off on mentioning anything about it. It didn't really seem appropriate to mention that sort of thing in a comment, anyway. I just hope Oda takes good care of himself, because I'd rather not lose him, too... as possessive/creepy as that may sound.

Honestly I’m not surprised. The only thing that make me think. Is if the elders have powers that are not devil fruits. Then why do they look like devil fruit users. Unless IM or IM’s actual full name Imu. Which is backwards of Umi in Japanese which means sea. So wouldn’t it be crazy, if Im sama is the reason devil fruits can exists. Why imagination can become reality. And the reason they say the sea curses you if you eat a devil fruit. isnt` Because of the sea itself. But Imu curses those that eat devil fruits and takes away the users ability to swim. And the elders abilities are just the early concepts of Devil fruit powers but they don’t suffer the ability of not being able to swim. Or they do that’s why there always at the castle. Also could just be straight up soul possession for the Gorosei. They mention how Zoans are said to contain souls when talking about how they can never manage to get their hands on the Gum Gum. Plus the revelations in Egghead that you can extract powers from DNA (to make a fruit even) and that the DNA of a person will hold their general personality. It’s possible that since Gods and Devils may not have blood or DNA…..you have to somehow put the actual soul (or a piece of it) into a fruit….and that the Gorosei possibly coming from a time before DFs just summoned the souls and put them directly into their own bodies

Sun Wukong basically uses magic as well as other characters in his story. Luffy's powers are exclusive to himself. The problem with luffy having toon force is that fact. Even in loony toons cartoons, every character is seeming able to use cartoon logic or toon force to one degree or another. The only thing is that some characters use it better than others and general never used in a way that finishes opponent in one shot, for example bombs and guns blowing up can't finish anyone off in loony toons. It often only wears opponent down and is silly.
