I think Kaidos main strengths are his insane stamina, unbreakable body, and raw power. Luffy’s main strengths have always been willpower and his ability to bounce back. (No pun intended) To me this was an unstoppable force and an immovable object, except one had to give. Since Luffy refused to give up, it was only a matter of time

He was 100% absolutely dead. Everyone with high tier observation Haki and the voice of all things, including Kaido, said he was dead. Momo said his voice disappeared. Momo sensed his voice even when he was in the sea. Luffy died. Full stop. Kaido killed Luffy. Most fan theories I’ve seen think that one of Gear 5’s activation requirements is stopping the heartbeat of the user so that the Drums of Liberation can activate.

Everyone with high tier advanced observation Haki and the Voice of All Things all agreed that he was dead, or that his voice had gone out. He was gone. Kaido even said that while standing over his dead body. 2. In the medical field (because I was an EMT for years and now work in physical therapy), we refer to anyone with no heartbeat as clinically dead until we are certain they cannot be brought back. Then we call actual time of death. But if your heart and brain have stopped, we denote you as clinically dead, even if we are trying to get you back. For all intents and purposes you are dead. You’re technically in cardiac arrest, but you’re dead. Without outside interference you will be completely dead. By definition, Luffy was clinically dead and would have remained so if not acted upon by an outside force: his Devil Fruit’s Awakening restarting his heart. Kaido, Sanji, and Momo’s opinion that he was dead (written by the author of the story) trumps your opinion that he wasn’t.

That's what i meant by death, person that should not be able to come back to life. My point was that luffy was not in a state(we have no idication of that) where he should not be able to come back. He was not out for long enough time for us to say that and since his heart started beating again then i have no reason to believe that.

Kaido fought the akaza nine guys who know ryuo, he then fights the supernova, law df attack's him internally, Killer uses sonic attacks to internally attack, Luffy uses ryuo as well and Zoro uses Asura and Odens sword uses ryuo, Luffy them unlocks Advance conqueror's, Yamato counters and clashes with Kaido, Luffy is using conqueror's coating in gear four and five and all while lifting an island and he's been fighting with no breaks, why people don't understand that it took over 50 chapters to bring down one guy that's insane he's fighting people who are either rivaling him or close to catching up

4:24 Kaido's getting stronger, not weaker. His control on the clouds weakened but not his haki. He had to put forth more effort into the actual fight going forwards from the moment Luffy started using acoc. 2 major instances are right after the sky split happens and when he gets g5, the 2 biggest amps Luffy got. Kaido only loses control over the flame clouds entirely at the end but clearly was putting in more effort into his fight with each slight buff Luffy was gaining over the course. Sure, going sober might have weakened him a bit but a bloodthirsty Kaido is stronger still.

Imagine him not lifting Onigashima. Sure, the raid would look different, but Kaido would be a whole nother beast. Same with Big Mom, cause the plot device of pushing her down wouldn't be as big of a factor. The whole Beast Pirates crew showing up to the Flower Capital with Big Mom would be crazy. Add in a transition of sea-air-land dominance of Kaido, and the measures the raid crew would have to pull out to stop them.

Something that the fandom omits, is that Kaido resisted all those blows without using armor haki in his defense, he endured everything with his tough natural skin and what the fruit gives, but not with haki, and we know that even characters like Big mom They can also give armor color to parts of their body. If Kaido had done that, the damage decreased much more, possibly Zoro did nothing, let's not forget that perhaps the king's haki is also used in that type of defense. Add future vision, which he only used at one point in the fight, when he could do much more, while Luffy constantly saw the future. That is to say, Kaido was so good at hand-to-hand combat, that he could be better than users as skilled at fighting as Luffy and who see the future, while he did not do the same. Let's also not forget that Oda did not give him an intention in each of the attacks, as happens with swordsmen, because the kanabo's spikes were for decoration, they did not pierce anyone. Another factor is that Kaido fought with a certain mentality, and is looking to have fun and look for an epic fight that defeats or kills him. Based on that he gave Luffy certain advantages, Luffy had fun but he wasn't a masochist. If we remove this and add the above, Kaido was stronger than what he showed (his haki even strengthened in the fight), but maybe that took away from the fun he wanted. Another power that Oda did not give him was the awakening of the fruit, which he should also be able to use, but it was not seen, and the final form of Dragon could perhaps do it in hybrid form, that fire seemed superior to any we have seen so far , was closer to the Magma. With all that, Luffy is on Kaido's level, but he is not the same or stronger. I also think that Akainu could hurt Kaido, if Zoro could, Akainu too and more. I add something else, and that is that Kaido is so resistant compared to other characters due to his body and fruit, but for example Shirohige or Shanks with hakki armor could have a higher defense than Kaido's skin and fruit.

Another reason why Kaido didn’t use future sight until a certain fight is because he was drunk. We learned from Katakuri that you can not use future sight if you are feeling strong emotions. While I’m his several drunk forms, Kaido uses mainly emotions to upgrade his fighting. Then, after Kaido gets headbutt by Luffy, he says that he is starting to become sober, meaning he has more control over his emotions. So, it is possible that Kaido didn’t use future sight until that point, not because he wanted to rank everything, but because he actually couldn’t

I think luffy surpassed kaido but not by much, yes kaido fought a whole lot of people and was holding back almost most of the time but luffy was literally near death any damage kaido took, luffy took more because he was taking it from the strongest creature and not from weaker fodder characters. And that flame clouds didn't take any skill momo just had to figure out how to use it otherwise he would have had to train for it instead of just being able to suddenly do it. The only thing that concerns me is that momo was tired after he brought down onigashima but momo and kaidos endurance aren't comparable.

Kaido wasn’t expecting Luffy to be as powerful as he was when he awakened, so Luffy basically got a few almost free hits on him in the beginning of the gear 5 fight. On top of that, Kaido never used the flaming body technique before the end, so while he was clearly using almost 100% against gear 5 Luffy, there were abilities he wasn’t using. Also, with Kaido being confirmed the strongest living creature, for Luffy to already be the strongest would feel out of place. Sure, BB can get a third df and then become the strongest, giving a mean for Luffy becoming even stronger, but that’s pretty much it. And from what we’ve seen, there’s still further Haki mastery that Luffy has to achieve, cause in no way is his conquerors Haki competing with Shanks’, so Luffy still has room for growth, and while technically everyone does, Luffy has a CLEAR indication for growth in the form of him not having the best Haki yet. So while Luffy will soon surpass Kaido, the possibility of him being stronger than him already are low

Hot take: If Yonko Luffy went Gear 5 and coated himself in ACOC full serious mode, someone would need advanced Haki to hurt him. Luffy has to be somewhere in the ballpark of Kaido’s durability now because of his awakening.
