These are my favorite two episodes. :) I was cheering and happy when I watched this. FYI, if you couldn't tell, I hate Usopp. That is why I enjoyed these episodes.

that's right. you get it. not many people connect this scene with usop's trauma. his fears doesn't just comes from him thinking he's the weakest. it's an even deeper trauma of seeing his mom died yet his father not returning. living by his sadness alone, for years hiding it behind lies to comfort himself. this loneliness made him believe that he was not good enough to be appreciated, thus the urge of wanting to be captain/leader. these fears makes him projects anger while at the core it was not about being weak, he was just afraid of being left alone again.

These two episodes really show friendship isn't everything. Luffy role of being captain is being tested. In which I understand Usopp reason for acting this way because Merry is a gift and the last memory he has of Kaya as well his hometown. Usopp has been putting all he had to take care of Merry. So I can understand him having a hard time letting her go as well with him dealing with this own personal challenges of not being strong. But at the same time I understand Luffy position. He's is the captain not Usopp. Luffy has to make decisions that's for the betterment of the crew. And he can't risk the lives of everyone in hope that Merry won't break apart. What makes this scene so difficult to watch because most of us have been in a situation similar like this where we are either in Luffy and Usopp position or the others as we are witnessing something terrible about to go down.

One of the best things about One Piece is how emotional it makes you. It can be super hype but it can also be super sad. These episodes felt so real. I could see something like that really happening. If the live action makes it that far, it would be cool to see it play out.

The reason why Usopp seems to be so good at fighting here is because he KNOWS Luffy's strengths and weaknesses and KNOWS that Luffy is extremely gullible and controllable and still thinks of Usopp as a friend knows Luffy will hesitate. That was his whole game plan. When his opponent cannot be easily fooled like Luffy can and his opponent actually happens to be a strong character then Usopp will have a hard time. Most battles till this point Usopp has won were him using trickery to fool his opponents and Luffy is bar far probably the easiest to fool

You Usopp haters always do the most mental gymnastics. Usopp is ALWAYS preparing new gadgets and weapons to fight with. This was no different when he went off to "prepare". It isn't something he just did out of nowhere because he "knows Luffy" It is something he is known to do (Usopps factory is literally just him creating new shit) the only trickery that worked on Luffy was the ketchup star and that was only because of their personal connection to each other. Everything else was just Usopp fighting how he would if he didn't lack self confidence. Everything Usopp did in this fight would have worked on anyone else and there was nothing in this fight suggesting it would only work on Luffy. Everyone in the crew trusts Usopps skills, only the haters and Usopp himself doubt his capabilities.

In addition to losing Merry and feeling weak and equating getting a new ship with getting rid of himself, Usopp also needed to adjust his mindset around what they were doing, what they were really doing. Unlike everyone else on that crew, he spent his childhood playing pirates and acting as Captain and perhaps this was just an extension of that as far as he was concerned. The incident with the Franky family told him otherwise. He is Luffy's best friend and he goes along with Luffy as his friend. But on a ship and in battles and so forth there has to be a captain - ONE captain - and everybody on the crew has to agree. Usopp wasn't at that point. Luffy wasn't exactly helping sell himself as the captain. So it comes to this.

Luffy already did the canon attack thing to Kriegs armor he repeatedly punch it remember? but in the case with the franky family he just did it faster cause luffy already knew with his experience with Kriegs armor thay he just needs to hit the same spot repeatedly to break the armor. There are just not alot of opportunity to use that attack.

Luffy was bound by his commitment as Captain. To keep the rest of his crew safe despite Usopp wanting to continue sailing on the Merry eventually sinking. As well as having to uphold his own decisions, he can't let a crew member that is ranked below him dictate terms, there must be a Captain.

Even though Luffy usually doesn't go easy on anyone in a duel, he used one of his weaker attacks to finish off Usopp. Bullet is Luffy's weakest move I am pretty sure (aside from just a normal punch)

4:57 - ""The Merry can no longer.... (BE FIXED)"" .. but that is actually SOFT ... the Actual Japanese sentences were abit harsh to Usopp ...that's why it cuts off Luffy : Merry Go wa Mou .... His lips were saying """SHINDA"" after that ... Merry Go wa Mou Shinda .... ((Merry is already dead)) But that were came out of RAGE .... thank god he proceeds to say ""merry go mou naosenainda"" which is the right thing to say - Merry can no longer be fixed

This always kills me. Usopp is my second favorite strawhat, and was my favorite of them at this point in the story. It's painful seeing him dealing with the potential loss of their ship. Not only does he have strong sentimental attachments to it, as it is a connection between him and Kaya, and from serving as their makeshift shipwright. But he's also personally associating with the Merry. Feeling like he's too weak to keep up or be of use to the crew. The decision to replace her just hammering his insecurities home. After all, she's one of them, a part of their crew. Who they are just replacing and leaving behind when she's no longer of use to them. No longer strong enough to keep up and face the challenges ahead, just like him. His own insecurities and fears getting the better of him and combining with Luffy really not being a particularly qualified leader, to tear them apart.

This was more about Usopp's insecurities than anything. Luffy tried to break it to him softly to spare his feelings but Usopp kept pushing and getting physical. He was trying to goad Luffy into justifying his own feelings about himself. Luffy never really cared about him being weak, Luffy just wanted a friend who he could go on adventures with.

I feel it's more about Usopp's abandonment issues tbh, his own dad left him and his Mum passed away shortly after. The moment the idea of abandoning the Going Merry comes into play, of course he's going to raise a dispute on the matter, as it's the only connection between him and Kaya he's got while on his travels with Luffy. It's clear his insecurities ultimately stem from abandonment issues, and the Going Merry's deterioration has just been a ticking time bomb for those issues to explode in Luffy's face. Both Luffy and Usopp were written so realistically during these episodes, it's really well done.

@@eggsmeister Maybe so but Usopp is extremely proud of his dad and won't take any bad mouthing about his dad so I'm not too sure he feels abandoned, and as for his mom she unfortunately got sick and died, there was nothing himself or his dad could have done about that.

@@eggsmeister The thing is, Merry wasn't gifted to Usopp. Kaya gifted merry to the straw hats before Usopp joined. I think even if merry was already in possesion of luffy and the rest when they first met Usopp, he would've still had this outburst because it´s really about Usopp's insecurity and not so much about Merry. I would say probably also the trauma of losing his mother played a role because he clearly is not thinking straigth. Like "Usopp, you really think Luffy or the others for that matter would abandon you? Like hello LUFFY?? the young man that did so much for others even before they joined him...?"🤦‍♀ So I do think it's coming from a hurt, unresolved place seeing how irrational usopp is being. Also the incident with Aokiji rattled him. Usopp fears he's not going to be able to pull through in the future and the fear overtook him he went into thinking better leave now than dissapoint my friends later on instead of commiting to getting stronger. And of course Luffy here had to learn a thing or two about leadership and better ways to communicate.
