Played on original SNES console with SD2SNES flash cart.
I've played Lufia II numerous times (and am currently working on learning the full game speedrun), but I'd never beaten the (very difficult) Ancient Cave sidequest before.
For anyone unfamiliar with the Ancient Cave, it's a 99 floor randomly generated dungeon, which you enter at Level 1 with no equipment/items/magic beyond 10 potions and any items found in blue chests during previous visits to the Cave. The goal is to defeat the Master Jelly on the bottom floor, which has roughly 10,000 HP and runs away after 3 turns, requiring some very specific weapons/IP abilities to defeat.
This was attempt # 4 to conquer the Cave, and I farmed blue chest items in between attempts.
I used the Frue Lufia bugfix/retranslation patch (www.romhacking...) for this playthrough, which (among many other things in the full game) fixes a bug with Ancient Cave red chests that normally prevents shields, helmets, rings, and jewels from being found after Floor 9.

A 2.5D remake would be AMAZINGl, but the story & emotions behind the characters are deep enough where I would LOVE to actually see a fully modern 3D remake of this, that way we can see the emotions & facial animations of the characters during important moments. That I feel would be VERY important as I think the game would be better for it, just as long as EVERYTHING is kept EXACTLY the same, no changes to the mechanics or story needed! Just a modern recreation of the game. Could be absolutely phenomenal if done well.

I really love the Red Chest fixes for this patch in the Cave! Definitely makes for less failed runs which are just frustrating as all hell. Only changes I don't like is all the items & equipment names being changed which just confuses veteran players & completionists.

Save states work perfectly fine with this game & the Frue Lufia patch & are actually VERY helpful with this game, specially in the Ancient Cave! So yeah, I highly recommend updating your SD2SNES firmware to the latest stable version as it now has Save States built in! Beware though that some games freeze up when trying to use Save States with them. Games like the Dragon Quest 5 English Translation simply do not work with them as they freeze up every time you try to load a state & then take an action.

Ya I agree man, I don't like it when runs focus on Glitches & skips & stuff either. Sucks the fun out of it if you ask me. I like playing casually but fast at the same time. Taking all the casual play out of a run kind of defeats the point of Video Games for me, aka the fun of the experience of the game itself. Just trying to get a good time isn't necessarily fun to me & you aren't enjoying the experience or spirit of the game anymore at that point when you're basically skipping over everything you can. What's the point even anymore if you're going to do that? Playing a Video Game is supposed to be for fun imo, not for breaking records.

The bushes with the healing tile have a swirl pattern instead of the normal bush pattern Edit: you don't actually need to kill the jelly. In the cartridge games, at least, you could party kill yourself and still win the encounter

I honestly wish they had chilled on the renaming of stuff. I really hate when patches do that as it's completely unnecessary in most cases & just makes it harder to decipher what stuff is when trying to look it up. All it does is confuse veterans of these games. Fixing translation errors is one thing, but there's no reason to alter the names of items & equipment like that, specially not this heavily. I also don't like when patches alter the text to be more accurate to the Japanese version, as I like a bit of American translation flavor we get in these original localizations. There's a reason some lines are changed to make better sense in English, & I often do not like scripts that follow the Japanese version to a T. They just aren't as good to read & there's less "personality" to the dialogue.
