Lufthansa's disappointing A380 economy class

I think what’s happening is that Lufthansa has been mainly focused on improving their 747 and A350 products while neglecting its A380s. It’s clear that the 747-8 is Lufthansa’s flagship and they value them a lot more than the A380. After all if they really valued the A380 they would have put in the extra effort to not waste the extra space and add a lounge/bar area or at least add a shower to the unnecessarily big first class bathrooms. It’s clear that Lufthansa wants to get rid of its A380s soon especially owing to COVID and I wouldn’t be surprised if they retire all of them in the old cabin you see here without any updates in between, similar to what Air France did with their A380s.

Having taken my first ever long haul flight, which was on a Lufthansa A380 (probably the same one featured in this video lol) from San Francisco (SFO) to Frankfurt (FRA) in economy (and back to SFO later) for an orchestra tour in Europe last summer, I can totally understand everything you said in this video about the typical LH economy experience. I agree that Lufthansa’s product in economy, at least on the A380, is old and the service/product was quite mediocre at best and overall pretty forgettable. Like the lack of any comfortable boarding music or calming colored mood lighting, bland looking wing and winglets, small and dirty bathrooms, and a bunch of other things this video already mentioned. Their narrowbodies (which have no seatback entertainment) are even more forgettable in my opinion, having flown on one after the A380 flight and the layover in Frankfurt (and vice versa on the way back). I did really like the idea that I got to fly on an A380 though. If I had to fly Lufthansa economy again for some reason, I would opt for the 747 and A350 because they do offer more modern seats with more modern IFE screens on those planes (e.g. larger screen with black borders instead of the white ones on this A380) and also universal outlet plugs in economy, unlike the A380 that just has a USB oddly placed underneath the arm rest (and Ethernet too I think?). That being said, you did a very great job with this video!

CloudNine You are welcome. I also would like to add that I have flown their A321 and A320neo (new livery) to get to and from our orchestra tour’s start and end points before/after connecting in Frankfurt, respectively. Both flights, the legroom was pretty tight, there was no entertainment, and only the A320neo flight had something to eat or drink. In my honest opinion, I just don’t care for the Lufthansa short haul product at all, and would seek other airlines if I had other options. I have heard great things about the Lufthansa products on the 747 and A350, but even with that, I think they should be a 3 or 4 star airline at best, and certainly not “Europe’s best airline”. I don’t know, Lufthansa still sort of gives me the impression of a huge German corporation with corrupt management that isn’t very flyer friendly and treats passengers like numbers, not too different from its fellow Star Alliance partner in the US. I don’t really care for it.

I live close to Munich Airport, Lufthansas Second hub with many A380s. I would always choose the arabic airlines, even if this means a stopover. Same for routes to America I would prefer British or so... That economy class is really bad looking! :(

Thank you for your nice comment, the German FA's on the outbound flight (This flight) were cold, the only flight attendant with a sincere smile was the only Thai FA on that flight; she was very nice. On the inbound flight (which I did not film) it was the German cabin crew that was excellent and the only Thai FA was the one that was kinda cold and grumpy..

Gabriel I agree, this isn’t even worthy of being a 3 star service, that ife looks straight out of 2008, the seats look horrendous and plain terrible, disappointed in Lufthansa really am

I think it’s very rude to walk in an aircraft while filming everybody who doesn’t realize it fast enough! One flight attendant quickly turned away from you when she saw the camera. Very bad style of you not to ask people in advance!

If the safety video is an argument to vote that LH is not a 5 star airline, omg! I have been on more than 25 LH flights in Economy and I was always very satisfied. If you book Economy you should know it's not Business, but I recommend you to try LH's Premium Economy. And my wife and me had never an crew which was not friendly, if you are friendly and smiley, you will get it back 100 %.
