TRIP REPORT / Flagship Service! / Munich to New York / Lufthansa A380 economy class

Very good morning from sunny Munich! Today is the day I have been waiting for so long! I fly with the largest passenger aircraft in the world- the Airbus A380!
But from the beginning: First we took the Lufthansa express bus from Nuremberg to Munich. After a 2 hour drive and on time we reach Munich airport. The weather is great and perfect for flying today :). After we dropped off our luggage, a huge queue awaited us at the security checkpoint. After about an hour this would be done... We passed the passport control and went with the airport train to the satellite building of Terminal 2. The largest passenger aircraft in the world is already waiting for us there - the Airbus A380. After boarding we set off quickly and left Munich for New York. But what will the service on board be like? Let us surprise! :)

Nice to see Lufthansa slowly re-introducing it's pre-pandemic service again on long haul flights. I think the LAX flights have a 2nd hot meal again.

Simply an amazing plane! Too bad the A380 doesn't fly Frankfurt-JFK anymore. Singapore Airlines used to fly Frankfurt-New York with A380 (but not anymore). I might make the detour via Munich next time ;-) Who knows how much longer we can fly this impressive bird.

I just landed from my A380 flight LH772! Here’s what I can tell you: The A380 is definitely something worth experiencing. From space ceiling onboard to a quieter cabin, the passenger comfort is really taken into account. That said, I think Lufthansa is not the best airline to fully enjoy this aircraft. The entertainment system is not made of the famous German quality. The small screen is lagging, only featuring mid-old movies (not the current ones at the theatres as it’s usually the case), the tail camera didn’t work at all. The temperature onboard was either very cold either too hot and several seats had issues for reclining, the crew was struggling when time to land because multiple seats would not be in the upright position. No socks available in Economy class in 2023??? I think the plane might suffer from its age (10 years old) without any overhaul I guess? In comparison, I had a much better experience with Swiss International Airlines last year. The 777’s in-flight entertainment, catering and crew were all better than Lufthansa’s, despite Swiss actually being a subsidiary of the Lufthansa group. Anyway, I think I did not expect Lufthansa to be the warmest/welcoming airline, so I’m not surprised. But they clearly should inspire themselves from their sister airlines, Swiss.

We arrived 2 hours and 30 minutes before depature. All in all it took around 1 hour and 15 minutes. :)

I checked in a bag with Lufthansa at the self service counter. I got informed about the status of my baggage in the LH-app. The weigt was only 12 kilogramms, 23 kg would have been allowed.

Wie lange fliegen die 380s und 346s denn noch bei lh? Hieß es nicht, dass die nur diesen Sommer fliegen und dann endgültig ausgemustert werden?

Vermutlich noch 2-3 Jahre mehr. Die von LH bestellte neue 777-9 lässt weiter auf sich warten. Die 787-9 auch. Boeing hat seit 6,7 Jahren enorme Produktionsprobleme. Lieferketten funktionieren schlecht. Geplanter Erstflug für die neue 777 war Dezember 20. Neuer roll out Termin voraussichtlich 6.25

Lufthansa wird die A380 mindestens bis 2030 fliegen. Es wird ab 2024 ja auch die neue Allegris eingebaut. Die A346 werden nach meiner Info mindestens noch 4 Jahre bei Lufthansa fliegen.

The A380 is a very nice aircraft that's for sure. But is mineral water and coke all you get to drink. Where is the wine, beer and the gin tonic etc.?

Absolutely not. I don't make any type of advertisement for Lufthansa, but you also had the possibility to get some wine as well as some beer or sparkling wine. Thank you for these tips, I'll mention more about the service selection next time.🤝

Well... I didn't say that I was flying business class. I have flown with many Airlines on board their long-haul airplanes, and the service was miserable. I was surprised by the service and I mentioned this impression with service LIKE in Business Class. You should read the title first before you leave a comment like this. Anyway, I switched the title, so I hope that there won't be some misunderstandings anymore. 🤝

No eyeshades, earplugs, socks, ..., embarassingly old and extremely ugly cabin (I mean look at 17:28.. How did someone say "Yes the passengers are going to love these grey seatbacks and grey walls and grey overhead bins!!).. For these prices I'd rather fly BA through Heathrow, get the same quality food with a nice modern and up to date cabin for almost half the price. I could also fly Delta for the same prices LH charges but with actually good service, free WiFi, and everything that LH doesn't offer in Economy. Great trip report but an absolute rip-off, almost robbery in my opinion :D. Even TAP gets you cheaper across the atlantic despite offering a similar quality of service (which seems to be none)

Sure, for a price of 600 to 900 euros, I wouldn't choose Lufthansa. But with miles and just a small price of around 100-150€ is it really worth it.
