Excellent recap on lug nuts and great move to switch to an all steel version without those caps! You'll thank yourself later, especially the more you off-road, go on the beach with it, maybe get salt water inside that area, etc. They WILL corrode again eventually over time, but the one-piece version will not have those same problems. One may still get stuck on the lug post, but not have its cap spin freely. As for the breaker bar scene, boy... that gave me anxiety just watching you stand on that bar. I thought for sure it was going to snap and you'd be falling on your face. I know. I've been there before. Not on my Discovery, but on another vehicle years ago. You're right though, in that a shop will use an impact gun (usually) to save time and put lug nuts back on. So where does that leave you to get them back off? I personally went to Harbor Freight and invested into one of their EarthquakeXT 1/2"-drive 20V rechargeable impact guns. Not just for lug nuts though, but because of all the work I knew I'd eventually be doing in general to my Discovery. I figured it was a good investment, and I gotta be honest, it is GREAT to have in certain circumstances. They are relatively "cheap" compared to what you could spend, and even cheaper when a coupon for Harbor Freight comes around. They make short work of highly torqued fasteners. I also want to add one thing in general in regards to your channel. What you may want to do, is set up a generic "DiscoLife" email address somewhere (DiscoLife@, DiscoLifeYT@, TheDiscoLife@, DiscoLifeTV@, etc.) and put that either in your video descriptions or in your "About This Channel" section. That way you can interact with your subscribers without sacrificing any personal accounts. Also, that gives vendors a chance to get a hold of you if they would like to sponsor your channel or send you an inquiry to review a product for them. Keep the content coming!

Great points about the lug nuts. Just like any vehicle I am sure, but I've heard a lot of people carry a 27mm socket and breaker bar in the truck for when they need to change a tire. The wrench that comes with the truck, much like the wrench for all vehicles is just too inadequate, especially for lugs of that size. It never crossed my mind about the breaker bar breaking, but I know Ang was concerned. I've since read of a lot of people breaking them trying to get off stubborn nuts. Suppose I've learned a lesson there! I do have an impact gun from Harbor freight, although mine plugs in. While we didn't show it in the video, I did attempt to use it to get the really stuck lug off. It didn't budge. I'm working on a few things now and have taken to pre-treating the bolts with PB blaster every couple of days for a week or so and it seems to be working well. We will for sure keep it around for tough jobs though, and maybe we will upgrade if this one is weak. We do use an disco devoted email for this account, but hadn't thought of posting it before. So here it is and we will post it in our descriptions going forward (great idea!): discolife04@gmail.com Great to hear from you again. We have more things planned and are enjoying our time with the disco. It is a family favorite for sure!

Hello, Great video, I am just catching up with you channel. You are walking a well worn path where some give up and some continue down the black hole which LR Owners call Love. I to have a 2004 but TD5 and I think our climate here in Australia is kinder to vehicles because it is basically dry. Having said that all your issues are very familiar. The great thing is someone has suffered before you and uploaded a solution so the knowledge pool is vast!! Great looking car and love the wheel nuts, good find. Cheers, Jerry

Thanks - those caps on the factory fit nuts had me a bit confused as the cap that looks so similar (dimple centre) on the locking nut has to be removed of course! I think I have 27mm on the rear spare, 22mm on the locking nut socket and 23mm on the wheels!! Thanks for the video - I have a Disco as well but you might enjoy a bit of UK scenery from my very rare Series 1. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqqYhJWoar6CfZI Best wishes, Anthony.

Wow. So nice of them to match 😂. Glad you found the video useful/entertaining. For the life of me I cannot figure out why Land Rover used these lug nuts, but alternates exist and are way better! I'll check out that link, thanks for sending it along! Best wishes - Andrew

@@DiscoLife04 Thanks - I think you will enjoy it! Of course the Series 1 (1958) is Whitworth so another different set of spanners needed again!

Well done for keeping at it when you were having difficulty removing that stubborn lug nut. It just proves the saying, "with a long enough lever, you'll move the world". I changed my lug nuts on the Disco 3 for solid steel ones a couple of years ago for exactly the reason you describe and it's well worth it I think. Here's my film of that . . . kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYnOiWRvgtR8b7M

I didn't know LR3s had those as well! Ugh they're so terrible. So far that's really our biggest complaint! Nice video and instructions!

Man oh man two piece lug nuts are literally the worst thing ever invented in the history of man kind. How they are allowed to be installed on vehicles is a mystery
