Truly a miracle that the ziggurat of Ur has stood tall throughout the millennia. Sure it doesn't look the same as in the golden days of the Sumer civilization, but it still puts me at owe how it survived all the conflict surrounding it. Most defenitly a testemony of the enginiering skills of those who built it. Glad that the DAESH can't reach it now and never did. May it remain this way for many millennia to come.

I hope that one day I get a chance to walk in the footsteps of the ancients and visit the incredible historical sites of Syria and Iraq.

History Time same applies to me. It truly bothers me how certain countries have no respect for their own heritage. That mayan pyramid that was buldozed in Belize really got under my skin. One thing is to be embroiled in war like Syria and Iraq are. Another thing is willingly sell your country's past, like the belizean authorities did. Or perhaps, they simply didn't care. One can only hope that Iraq can find some degree of stability. The last 3 decades haven't been kind on it's present nor it's past. Same applies to Syria. At least somethings haven't changed in the levant, a pity it was the constant conflict and bloodshed.

Never underestimate the destructiveness of willful ignorance! Besides the wealth of animal life on this planet, I can't think of anything more essential to preserve than our collective human history; Specifically, the architectural iterations that illustrate our evolving minds. These works speak of war but they are for protection. They speak of god but they are so fully human. They declare cultural specialty but they reveal universal commonalities. I hope we can preserve these ancient constructions.

Lagash-Lagaš is inconsistent on various maps however it's been accurately located. Maps showing it as near-coastal are incorrect, however its extended realm did reach the coast. Akkad-Agade was riverside along deep enough water to accept sea-going vessels. Akkad still hasn't been located. Odd note - the city name itself is not Akkadian.

They had generally become small villages by that time with just a few people living in them, mostly due to outside invasions and gradual environmental changes making the area inhospitable, then finally around that time the last people moved to larger sites nearby.

The Last Sumerian Kingdom was that of UrIII in the Neo-Sumerian period after the Sargonite dynasty, founded by Ur-Namma.
@HistoryTime6 жыл бұрын
CadaverSplatter That's right, I covered it in this video here:- kzbin.info/www/bejne/epTLgqR6bcxjY7c though the Ur III was more of an empire made up of numerous different peoples, such as Gutians, Akkadians, Semites etc as well as Sumerians. Lugal-Zage-Si's kingdom was the last native Sumerian kingdom in the long line of succession from the first cities, before outside conquerors changed the political situation forever.
@CadaverSplatter6 жыл бұрын
Different people, particularly Akkadian speakers, were part of the Sumerian territories for some time, and their cultures had become so entwined by the Sargonite period that, really calling them Sumerian or Akkadian has more to do with their languages, not their cultures; there was no doubt a high degree of bilingualism since teh type of records we have in Akkadian at the time, particularly Royal inscriptions, are often in bilingual inscriptions, while the bulk of the economic texts remained in Sumerian- a tradition that was maintained well into the Old Babylonian period, where legal texts from Nippur are composed in good Sumerian. What I think follows from this, and there is much more evidence to present than what can be included in a KZbin comment, is that we cannot separate the cultures that inhabited the period just because there were two main languages, rather there was a shared culture between the Akkadian and Sumerian speakers. Further, Gutian control does not mean there were high concentrations of Gutian speakers through out the territory, since we know basically nothing about their language other than from Proper-names. The same thing cannot be said of Akkadian speakers, names of which can be found throughout the Early Dynastic period.
@CadaverSplatter6 жыл бұрын
Also, we shouldn't really qualify any of these polities as empires, since the definition requires a centralized bureaucracy that has institutional controls throughout an array of different territories, something that was developed much later by the Assyrians. What Lugalsagesi, Sargon, Urnamma, and Hammurabi had was occupying the Prestige city state, where the other independent city states had to pay tribute and appease them. They did not provide a centralized bureaucracy, and the other city states operated with a high degree of the autonomy, yielding to the threat of force. As a result of this the polities were very short lived, and the prestige dissipated as the threat of force weaned. But, even though the scope of territories grew in this manner, the city-states had long vied for the prestige position, and as a result it shifted hands quite regularly. Historical memory of this is preserved in the Sumerian King list, even if the precise details contained within it are not historical (it excludes Lagash, for example). To Contrast with this, the Assyrians had several administrative hubs throughout its controlled territory, all answering directly the Assyrian rulers. The city states it conquered, were often relocated, and new administrations were out in their place that were part of the Assyrian Royal court. Prior to that, you just had city-states vying for the prestige position that had no ambition or means of executing centralized control over the other city-states they dominated.

I was one for understanding and respect, to an extent inclined towards forgiveness even, but a limit seems to have been crossed, the scales have been tipped. I'm very curious about if it is at least one city from Ancient Mesopotamia still inhabitted up until modern days? I know that Mosul-Nineveh kinda fits this, but still there were more than 1000 years between destruction of Nineveh and foundation of Mosul.
@hassanbassim40073 жыл бұрын
There are, I will list the ones that I know of and the ones that I myself looked into the literal translation of ancient Mesopotamian tablets that mention the names of cities I will mention now :- Hit Anah Nippur (another name but it’s on the same location continuously and it’s people know they are from ancient people) Baghdad (mentioned in Hammurabi’s tax list as a small city with the same name) Irbil (Assyrian, today inhabited by Kurds) Kirkuk (current name from 300 BC referring to seleucid base but its original name and history dates to Sumeria) Tikrit (Akkadian) Fallujah (Babylonian) There are others but I cannot remember them now, the reason why the northern half of Mesopotamia still inhabiting the ancient cities unlike the south is because Tigris and Euphrates change their directions from time to time in the southern half and this force the population to abandon their ancient cities and build new ones, while the rivers in the Northern half of Mesopotamia mostly preserve their direction and the population can keep their settlements forever.
@rossusarnulfus75523 жыл бұрын
@@hassanbassim4007 Wow, definitely didn't expect to find Baghdad and Tikrit on this list! Thank you for information! Just today I listened to a podcast about Ancient Mesopotamia, where guy said about changing directions of rivers and Hammurabi. What a timing, lol XD

@@rossusarnulfus7552 np, btw just to make sure I don’t spread wrong informations or lacked ones, I have to mention that the name of Baghdad even tho it was mentioned during Hammurabi’s reign and later mentioned by the Assyrians and Neo-Babylonians, we don’t know if the city that was mentioned is the same or in the same position of modern Baghdad, the location was only mentioned by Neo-Babylonian era and mentioned it existed on the Tigris river. Sorry for not mentioning this in my first reply. The rest of the cities we know exactly their ancient positions as well as their names (both are the same as today).

I'd love to know what texts you refer to, for this summary. I have read the cuneiform from the period (there isn't all that much), and this is nothing like what I encountered. Perhaps you have source material unknown to major online archives. I've never read anything from the period that hint at the kingdoms and campaigns you describe, prior to Sargon. Yes, Lugash was overthrown, but there were reasons for this, set out in the Lugasdh cuneiform cones. They tie into the rise of Sargon. One cannot make such sweeping documentaries of this period, I do not think. There is simply too little actual evidence. Indeed, almost nothing at all can be argued without reference to each specific sentence, as each sentence is very much up for interpretation.

1. This morning I want to talk about the subject: “the transfer of spirits”.Initially, it was by synods and ecumenical councils that the transfer of spirits started, then by the submission of the Church to the State through statutes and internal regulations,then by unions, federations and councils of churches, and now by the conventions and even by giving up the pulpit to one who does not believe point by point or who does not have the same spirit as you; even if he preached right. 2. The transfer of spirits also takes place during clothing exchanges or lending with someone who is not a Brother or a Sister. Also by allying oneself with some people as it can be seen in 2 Chronicles 20:35 to 37 and 2 Chronicles 18 and 2 Chronicles 19:1 to 3. Jehoshaphat must understand that God does not want us to make friends with an unbeliever or an idolater. You do not have the right to go to a vigil, convention or meeting of those Catholic, Protestant, evangelical churches, missions and ministries including the whole of the Branhamists, that is to say those who still follow the Message of William Branham even in all its purity. For the consequence, it is the transfer of spirits. You cannot sing or pray with someone before you have agreed upon the last point that differentiates you, because behind a Branhamist, Baptist or Foursquare, there are as many demons as behind a Catholic. Do you grasp that? Behind a Catholic, Protestant, evangelical or a Branhamist, there are as many demons as behind one who follows Rosicrucianism, Freemasonry or Voodoo. 3. Hundreds of demons can stand behind only one falsehood. [Ed: The congregation says, “Amen!”]. And never pronounce yourselves on a dream of those people… Never gather together for the smallest prayer. If the situation surprised you, do not close your eyes or simply go out. The Bible says not to have communion with demons. 4. Do not get flattered by any word because you are not "brother" or "sisters" in the same Jesus-Christ. You do not have the right to call a Baptist or Adventist or Branhamist: "brother in Christ", and do not let them call you this way. They are our neighbours and we love them for the Bible said, "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". We look on their prayers as incantations in the name of Jesus Christ. And we look on their churches as the altars of the gods of Egypt. And we must be strict towards them to avoid any transfer of spirits in our lives. 5. And when somebody comes to us from those churches, whether he is baptised in the Name of Jesus-Christ or in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, whether he is baptised by immersion or aspersion, he must purely and simply be re-baptised. 6. You must know that there are two tendencies on the earth: them and us. "And he that is not with us is against us, and he that gathers not with us scatters." Luke 11:23. Everything they are doing, it is witchcraft, leading souls into captivity for hell. The same way that we burn their bibles, treaties and others, it is in this way that God will cast them into the burning lake of fire. 7. We cannot call idolaters, enemies of God "brother or sister in Christ". We have neither the same God, nor the same Holy Spirit. A Catholic is not your brother in Christ. A Protestant is not your brother in Christ. An evangelical is not your brother in Christ. A Branhamist is not your brother in Christ. A member of those missions and ministries cannot be your brother in Christ. They are just your neighbours. 8. The God of Israel is different from the god of the Arabs around Israel. And our God is different from the god of the churches which are around us. And these Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, and all those that you see around us, they are Iraqis, Jordanians, Lebanese, Syrians, Pakistanis and Arabs around us. Israel, it is the valley of the prophets and a son of God follows a living prophet because the prophet is the mouth of God on earth. The Bible is the book of the books of the prophets and a child of God cannot live outside of a living prophet. [Ed: The congregation says, “Amen!”]. 9. Put these things into practice and I say that those spirits that you took from them in the past will be sent back to them. And in the Name of Jesus-Christ, it will be so! Have a mastery of this subject: "the transfer of spirits". Burn those false bibles and the devil will know that he has no portion with you. Let those men know that you are not in the same dimension. 10. For you who come from the evening Message, there are some Branhamists who laid hands upon one another during the washing of the feet. At midnight, this is no more possible because of the transfer of spirits. It is the same for churches, assemblies where people who pray by holding hands or laying hands upon one another. 11. Never place those so-called representations of Jesus-Christ in your house. Even the one by Hofmann. The Apostles and the disciples opposed that. Eusebius too, the one who chose the 27 books of the New Testament amongst 62, opposed the depiction of Jesus. It was at the Constantinople Council in year 692 that the depiction of Jesus was authorized. 12. If the Lord Jesus-Christ is God, then He can appear under several forms, and it is an abomination to try to represent the Lord Jesus. The two disciples on the way of Emmaus did not recognize Him. In John 20: 11-16, Mary Magdalene did not recognize Him. And the Bible says that the Lord Jesus Christ appeared several times, under different forms. So, how will you represent Him? By trying to represent the Lord Jesus Christ, God will make that it is Judas that you will represent and place in your house. 13. Separate from what is impure. You see? We have not yet spent three years together but if I returned after spending three months on a trip, will you not recognize me? Then, how is it that three days later, in broad daylight, Simon Peter, Thomas, John, James and the other disciples who were fishing, did not recognize the Lord Jesus? All the same! You see? And Mark 16 says… let’s read that: "And after these things he was manifested in another form to two of them as they walked, going into the country". Why? Because He is the Almighty God! And you, sons of the devil, you have ended up giving Him a representation. But I have the certainty that this so-called photograph of Jesus is closer to Judas Iscariote than to the Lord Jesus. [Ed: The congregation says, “Amen!”]. 14. And I will end with this: Avoid saying, "God told me" because if it is not God, then you have called Satan your god. Thus, all those who are listening to you will receive that spirit. You can see right and clear revelations and nevertheless, it is of the devil. 15. And if somebody claims himself as a Christian and claims to have the Holy Spirit, if he rejects the midnight Cry, do not fear to tell him that he rather has a spirit of divination according to Ezekiel 33:1-9 and be pure of his blood on the day of the judgement. 16. And you know that it is more advantageous for you to preach the Message to your parents and acquaintances so that they may not seek to pray with you when you arrive at their homes… Go ahead of them! And be pure of their blood. Amen!

At times I agree with you, but for the most part I actually disagree. The Information Age is an incredible time to be alive. Just for example -whilst the internet can be used for evil if in the wrong hands I truly believe it CAN be the greatest force for good the human race has ever possessed. It can be used to document the lost civilisations of our world, to document the stories that unite us all, and to highlight the methods which rulers have previously used to keep us apart. It can be used to keep our eyes open to the old tricks that totalitarian states have used for time immemorial, and if used wisely it can lead to wisdom rather than ignorance. It may seem like we are are living through the darkest of times, but for the most part this is also the greatest time to ever be alive and a time of great potential. You just have to avoid the ancient aliens, pseudo-history, annunaki, flat earth madness.

Hated to see this happen ! One question though." What motivation did counquers have to consolidate power in ancient times?" Probably a silly I suppose.

The story of old, is that of today. Just as America with its oil and various stategic resources to plunder and protect.

Omar Omokhodion I know it's true no nation became a nation without conquering another nation. I guess I figured life would have been so " simple" that it wouldn't have occurred to anyone to conquer with the vastness of the land. But I suppose it all had to begin somewhere / sometime.

Omar Omokhodion, What nations, what civilizations were plundered by America?

Permit me to rephrase your question: "What nations, what civilizations were and still are being plundered by America?" Apart from the countless Native American tribes, I could reference Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Greneda, Panama, North Korea, Afganistan, Iraq as places of direct military invasion and occupation. However a countless number of places have had casual interventions without intention of occupation. I could also, in an attempt to answer your question, inform you of the places American companies operate in exploiting foreign resources but this list is near endless.

Very good mini-documentary; but it's "Sumer," not "Sumeria." More importantly, though, few people give Lugalzagezzi the credit he deserves, and you did. And why are people destroying all this stuff? Is it religious reasons or what?
