I am a Luo. My area borders Kisa,Marama, and Nyore, I believe that Marachi is more related to the subtribes mentioned above than Maragoli. However, it is apparent that all of the dialects are unmistakablly Luhyia .

Just to point out, Maragoli has three different ways of spelling some words(maybe more!) - dz, ts and z. For example, fish may be spelled as dzisuzi, tsisutsi, or zisuzi. Keep up the good job 😊

I find this very informative! Trust me, I had no idea that's the case. I have been wondering why my reaserch of some pronunctioan was off. It turns out those people were right and that there are different ways of spelling and therefore pronunciation. Thank you.

Yes Kimaragoli (Lulogooli) is very similar to Kimarachi, I was in Bungoma and I had hard time with Kibugusu, but I when I got to Busia I was home, all Busia dialect are very close to Kimaragoli, especially Marachi

Your efforts to compare some luhya words is commendable. I would advise you to use mature marachi speakers and mature maragoli speakers so that you are able to get the proper meanings and spellings of the words that you want to teach.. For example , the words umulitu and uvusaka in kimaragoli are used in various ways to refer to the same thing..Either a thicket or a forest.

-Bushiere old marachi is bukhiere. -Marachi old lumarachi is Lumaraki the language, bamaraki the people and bumaraki the land.The samia are close to it,they say lumataki😅 -Banyolo old marachi Banyifwa/munyifwa. Finally, I would say the two languages are related and the fact that we have subtribes means we didn't originate from a common ancestor. Thus, the difference

Hello Doreen! I have to give you 99.9% for this presentation. You got a couple just off alittle bit. I think you might be getting your Kimaragoli words from kids of Maragolians in Nairobi. In all seriousness you did great. You know I like to nitpick you, I hope it doesn't offend you. When you have the right words, your pronunciation is top notch. I will correct a couple of words for you Thank you --- Sande Cook -----------Kudeka (Doreen 'Yadeka' in Luo land) Coming -------Nziza/Nzizanga Clothes ------ Zinguvu I am okay --- Mbe mulamu (Garaha = 'Easy' or 'Slow') Just remember the Zi is interchangable with Tsi. By the way Maragoli borders Bunyore, Tiriki, Isuka, Idakho and kalenjin and Luos to the south. Somebody is in between us with Kisa, and Wanga. As usual I expect challenges from Authentic Maragolians. I don't claim to be genuine, I have been away for a minute. I think the 2 subtribes are very much related. The words are pretty much similar. If I came to Marachiland after a couple of days, I would easily catch on. I am pretty sure if you came to Maragoliland in a couple of days, you might not talk like a native but they won't talk about you in your presence. You would be saying 'Munya' in no time

Margolis have many alternative words (vocabulary) and therefore have no problem understanding the other luhyas. A bit of difficulty with the Bukusu. It is however easier for a Maragoli to understand Kibukusu than a Bukusu to understand kimaragoli. Hamba and Itsa/Yitsa all mean come. Going and coming could easily be spelt the same...it is the pronunciation that is different.
