I actually once knew a girl named Sophie. We knew each other for a very long time, and I secretly loved her. I never told her, because I was too chicken to tell her how I really felt. For some reason, she suddenly went missing for a week, and so I went to go look for her. I decided to go to the one place we loved the most, the woods. We used to climb the trees and make tiny houses out of the sticks and rocks we found on the ground. We named it Sticksville. We had so much fun, and we found little bugs and insects to fill up the homes, like a neighborhood. As I was looking around, there was a ditch about 10 steps to the right of the tiny neighborhood. We planned on getting a lot of water so we could turn it into a little pond or lake for fish, ducks, etc., and that’s when I saw it. I found her, lying motionless in the ditch, the rocks bloodied and moist. Her jaw had been unhinged, a couple of rocks imbedded into her skull. I looked up, to shield my eyes from this horrible sight, and I saw a branch that had been broken, probably due to excess weight. I couldn’t help but look back, and it was only then I had snapped, breaking down at an instant, screaming and crying for help. I called my parents, and they rushed over with an ambulance as quickly as possible to take her to the hospital. The surgeons tried their hardest to give her another chance, but it was already too late. She was too far gone. I had lost something I held dear, and I made a vow to never go into the woods again. Sometimes, I feel like she’s still here, because I can still hear her giggling, and some objects become misplaced frequently. I visit her grave every single day, since we live near the graveyard she was buried in. Every time I come by, I can’t help but cry my eyes out, still horrified by her broken, mutilated body, lying dead in that ditch. I hope she knows how much I loved her, and I hope she’s doing alright in the afterlife.
