Luis did not just ask Leon for a smoke randomly. It was supposed to be his code phrase with Ada, so he knows he's talking with the people from the organization who'll help him with his escape. The answer should be "I do. The kind you like". It was also implied in his emails with Ada. Tbh I first thought he's just a chainsmoker lmao... I never put two and two together in the originals!

Funny no one seems to notice the interesting little easter egg with Luis and Leon or at least no one is talking about it. Calling Leon Sancho Panza means he was calling himself Don Quixote, the hero of the story and a delirious buffoon. This was Luis criticizing himself while calling Leon the only sane person in the room.

@5:22 They really gave Ada Catwoman energy this time, and I’m digging it! I just love how she’s standing above Luis in this scene, symbolizing her manipulation that she had over him with the deal. Reminds me of Catwoman/Batman’s cityscape dialogues in the Arkham series. I love how she also slipped out of her first meeting with Leon without a peep, just gone somewhere in the wind. I didn’t think they would have gave Ada the hookshot to lend more realism, but making her this sleuthing cutthroat really brings the character to life.

So true! Some people have "negative" opinions on Ada in this remake, but this is just the base game. It really feels like we are missing some episodes to a series, and perhaps this is deliberate because there are some ramblings about her DLC being added. It'll be more fleshed out because this time, it was planned from the beginning of the project (unlike in the OG where it was just developed because IIRC Sony demanded new content for late launchers to Playstation, and they had to make do with reusing some assets and somehow weaving it to the narrative). I'm okay with what they are doing to her character on the other hand. Something about her is stronger, stern, and more calculating, like a veteran spy she already is. At this point in the story, she's already a legend within the underground for accomplishing her mission in Raccoon City, and she's serving that energy. Perhaps the new VA was really a deliberate choice to parallel where they are taking her character now (apart from the race issue). Also, by her having sparing appearances in the base game, I actually think that it does some good to her character in that she is not being portrayed as too Leon-dependent and vice-versa. The mystique is there and it makes people want to see more of her, which builds anticipation for her DLC. It makes her character stand more on its own, which is a good thing if they do something with her in future installments. I also liked the angst between Leon and her this time around. It makes Leon's character stronger and it actually makes sense for him to initially distrust her. On the other hand, we see how Ada has a soft spot for him while she was keeping her apathetic facade. Just when she points the gun at him in their meeting, we see that her finger was never on the trigger. Very subtle but there is nuance in there. Also her ending is a lot more morally explicit now, so I'm excited where this is going. It's such a good teaser to show where her true motivation lies and exploring the organization she is working for. They never followed through with its exploration in the OGs, so I hope we discover it now. In this remake, it seemed like she just made up her mind on betraying Wesker when he told her about his plans... It's interesting to see how they have tweaked this plot. They seem to be rectifying a lot and tweaking her, which makes this remake version of her surprising in a way. Glad you're also diggin' this new Ada!

Because Capcom have already used this iteration of Ada in WTRC, as Lily Gao served her lines in the same fashion she does with Ada here. Leaving me to believe Capcom does want to enhance Ada’s espionage nuances, they want an actress to parallel those traits as you say, and Lily does a good job of portraying a calculated spy, NOT the original femme fatale concept, which is okay because we have that style in RE4 and Li Bingbing’s adaptation in Retribution.

@@marketeagle4508 I also do agree on her spy nuances, as the complicated romance between the two didn’t take precedence this time, instead the understanding of a quasi partnership with underlying chemistry. Ada doesn’t manipulate or protect Leon strictly by her emotions, but by the mission. Which RE4 originally failed to achieve, as it seemed like Ada would flip flop orders based on how she felt about the situation, instead of how it would play to her advantage. Wesker even outlined this “Don’t cry to me when your dog bites back” even Wesker seemingly leaves her manipulation to her own devices instead of testing her. To which even Leon asks if she’s still using him, something the games have never acknowledged. Their self awareness totally pays off by the end when they’re shooting side-by-side because they fully understand one another’s perspective.

@@marketeagle4508 The ending was sheer beauty because not only do we actually see Ada betray Wesker this time, it’s instantaneous, calm and calculated, like the perfect spy. Because after Raccoon City, she does become the top spy in her league, as to why she was the one who got away with Las Plagas this time, because of her resolve. So when Wesker reveals his plans to kill billions, Ada very subtly reveals her humanitarianism once again and derails the mission finally. I love that she decides to go clean at the very end instead of by Chapter 5/15 when Leon is around because it shows that she makes her own moral choices, not always based on Leon. I love this version of Ada because it’s a clear cut concept between RE2R Ada and RE6 Ada, I can completely see how this calculated version of her later transitions into the vigilante style she gives in RE6 as a free lance, and probably any new iterations. Because I promise, had Ada showed up in RE Village as the *Plague Doctor* we would have gotten this RE4R iteration of Ada where she is more cutthroat than charming, because that’s the character arch it takes to be the top spy in their universe.

​@@TheRealAdaWong Heyyy! I agree and I could not have said it any better! I just finished the game and am having some post-game musings lol. I'm glad I found you here :) Always a pleasure to know your thoughts! I just hope they really push through with the Separate Ways DLC because I am really missing her in the game (she appears randomly)... and that is supposed to make sense for Leon's campaign because she was never meant to show herself to him from an effective espionage's perspective. When she interacts with him though, she had to keep the facade of apathy which also makes sense because of how keen she is on downplaying him to Wesker, so he won't think of him as a threat and get him into more trouble. However, I do sense some inner-conflict on the tone of her voice because she was always very abrupt when interacting with him.... Kind of like how you avoid someone, so you don't drop your guard to them and show your true feelings. It looks like she's angsty, but she eventually softens up in the end and even asks him to the chopper (I thought this was a big change to her demeanor). I thought they nailed the duality here rather than her just flip flopping on orders based on her emotions, like what you said :D I do think that the honey trap direction for Ada is already done in this remake, and I understand that it's not realistic considering they are taking on a more serious tone this time. She still has the qualities of a femme fatale, but it's not as overly in-your-face and campy as in the original, which makes for a more nuanced showcase of her character. I always had the feeling that they were rectifying her direction because her story did not really advance in the original series. We never got the payoff of knowing her true intentions. They tried giving her a huge role on RE6, but it still did not do anything substantial to advance her story. It seemed like Capcom was too scared to lift the veil of mystique off of her because it defined her for so long (and arguably that's what made most fans gravitate to her) or maybe they were just going with the flow and eventually wrote her to a dead-end. She has a lot of potential on paper... having connections in the underground and having intel on key players in the story, she can make a huge difference on the overarching narrative of the series. In her remake ending, she looked like a woman on a mission and they explicitly showed her moral compass... I am expecting a huge pay off considering how they changed her character - which seems to be a deliberate risk they are taking, especially how the reception of this new Ada is mixed. Also on another note... I just realized (and I never thought of it in the OG RE4, so I might be late on this if it was that obvious lol). Luis asking for a smoke was a code phrase between him and Ada to identify people from the organization.

Exactly, after the cabin fight he said he got a plan but they never explained it. He might be just in coma and not really dead, they can easily make a twist that he's carrying a new regen sample in his body that can cure injuries he was working on for a while, after all he's the same guy who created the regenerators, a morally grey scientist like him would definitely take advantage of the regenerators to make a new sample that cure injuries with low side effects for medical purpose to make money at the black market. He might've been testing the new regen sample on himself which explains the scars on his face and neck, and how he managed to walk all the way to save Leon despite his injury. The set up for his death seems more convenient for his survival twist.

I do love that they decided to hire ACTUAL Spanish speakers and not just regular gringos pretending to speak Spanish from Spain, which unlike South American spanish accents, it's really hard to catch on by a native english speaker. And that's why it's easier to get bilingual Spanish speakers, they sound MUCH more convincing and compromised with the setting!

Luis has the biggest upgrade in the remake that killing him in one game seems like a wasted potential, they done everything perfectly with his character. But one thing I'm not sold on is his death, not that i think it's done poorly in fact it's brilliant and emotional, but it doesn't set right to think he's done with a mere stab when he's the same guy responsible for the regenerators. He said he got a plan after the cabin but they never explained it. What if it's a set up for his survival twist! It's more convenient if he got a regen sample in his body that can cure injuries, explains how he managed to walk all the way back to save Leon despite his injury. A morally grey scientist like Luis working on regen sample for medical purpose to make money seems more fitting, he must've been testing it on himself for a while which explains the scars on his face and neck, but it must be a slow regen process that puts him on coma while healing. His survival twist adds more interesting scenarios than his death, because RE story is desperately in need for morally grey characters to spice things up for the main cast, Luis can be a wildcard/jester/anti hero type of character because he's literally the guy who created all the monsters we kill in RE4 and was former researcher of umbrella, killing him in one game seems like wasted potential.

For example they changed Luis story making the ex Umbrella scientist who created Nemesis to connect RE3 and RE4 events, that's why he said "i led a shitty life" This is huge change and wasn't in the OG, not expanding his role would be a wasted potential, his DLC can follow his days in Umbrella and Los iluminado, he probably met Wesker too. So it's weird to make the dude who created Nemesis die with a mere stab where he could be carrying a regen sample he just never tried fatal injuries so he thought he's gonna die in that moment and he meant to he said to Leon thinking it'd be his last words, in reality he just went to coma while healing, this kinda twist won't effect his death moment. Imagine a scenario where Jill finds out he's involved in the creation of her first nightmare, Nemesis, Jill would likely try to kill him while Leon would stop her. Another cool scenario is that Luis can make samples that helps Leon or anyone in the main cast to willingly gain power/speed like Wesker but temporarily, to beat other BOWs or some powerful villain, and Luis would have the vaccine to bring them back to normal. Would be pretty cool to see Leon or other characters have super powers like Wesker.
