I don’t just like it, I love it. I have been collecting white linens for years and I also inherited a large batch from my mom. I recently went through them and separated out lots of them to use for junk journaling. So thank you so much, Luise, for your very precise tutorial. I think I am ready to experiment. You are so very talented and I appreciate all you put into your videos.

Luise, you wondered how to pronounce Villainous. It is pronounced much simpler than it looks - Vill-a-nus. I enjoyed watching your use of Distress Oxide Inks for coloring fabrics. I am a painter and fiber artist and I do the same thing but with thin acrylic paints. With acrylic I have to dampen the fabric first or the paint won't move. Then, I apply the paint, scrunch and spritz. Gravity takes the paint down to the bottom of the wrinkles. If let to air dry there won't be strong contrasts along the wrinkles. I use old metal baking sheets in the oven on a low heat. Acrylic paint has no problems in the oven. I don't know about the Distress inks. Experiment, experiment, experiment. And continue to have fun.

At the beginning of your video, the small folds in the fabric you mention, are called “pin ticks.” They are often used in heirloom sewing, and easily made with a straight stitch sewing machine with a regular preserve foot, although a specialty foot can be used. The fabrics can be vintage and there are also new fabrics made for those who do v heirloom sewing, in white, beige, and other pastel colors. If the artist only has narrow laces and wishes ro have wider laces, a small zig zag stitch on the sewing machine can be used to join them, or if the machine only dies a straight stitch, the narrow laces can be attached easily to plain fabric with a straight stitch. So, it can be fairly easy and quick to combine fabrics and laces to make larger sections as desired. When newer fabric is used, the thread used to make embroidery or lace might be polyester or rayon, which might not take the due in the same way, which might even be desirable. To determine the content of the fabric, lace, thread, there are instructions on the internet for song a “burn test” to determine fiber content. The smell and ash of each river has its own characteristics and only a tiny piece is needed for testing.

Hi Luise! Wonderful tutorial. I love how the oxides react with water. Tim always says oxides sit on the surface but inks soak in. Fabulous technique..fabulous colors. Absolutely gorgeous. Your English is getting better and better. You pronounced “pistachio” in the correct Italian way with the “ch” as a “k” sound. The American pronunciation of the “ch” is with a “sh” sound. Both are correct. I’ve got to find me som3 fabrics that will work for this. Thanks Luise, for taking us through the process. 👍🥰❤️

I use the oxide sprays for fabric and paper...I dye them in the throw away metal baking dishes. I've found that if I don't rinse them out when I'm done, that even if I use dylusions, tea, coffee, etc....there are little surprises of oxide ink on my projects. It's kinda like not cleaning your gelli plate and getting excited about the grungy edges from past pulls.
