He will make a followup eventually especially once this series is wrapped up. Tbf to him after they convincingly beat the Nuggets almost everyone thought they were riding too high on momentum after eliminating the defending champs and will win off of that but nobody expected them to drop the ball this much. Myself included thought this was going to be a wrap in 6 in favor of the Timberwolves even if I prefer the Mavs more. Pleasantly surprised that isn't the case.

Something should be done about careless dangerous plays from KAT. I get that they may have been purely accidental but it does not seem fair. Lively could potentially have a career altering injury from KATs knees and KAT just walks away like it's nothing. Gotta have a clause about that in a new CBA. You do some serious damage even if accidental, you're on a hook!
@100navat

It's supposed to be a physical game, injuries happen. You don't want players penalized for obvious accidents or they'll play even more timid, that's bad for the game.

Yes you can say KAT has a bad character, not being interested in him injuring Lively. Just shows what kind of character he is as a person. But nothing about that play was careless, dangerous or even intentionally. Injuries happen. Its sad and I hope Lively will be back soon, cause we need him. And thats coming from a 20+ years long Mavs fan, who thinks Lively is the best thing that happened to my Franchise since drafting Luka!

@@jonnyarnett This deserves a deep dive. To think that Ant is out of gas is so odd to me. Why isn't the rest of his team out of gas? I heard a stat that Dallas' defense was the #1 defense in the last 14 games of the season. Sorry, I don't remember where I heard that. It seems to me that Dallas has really been overlooked and underestimated which has been an advantage. If you look at Dallas they have this very quiet but deadly approach. Every position plays their roles really well. Obviously the 1 2 punch of Luke and Kyrie is amazing. They can score almost at will and their threats create openings and opportunities for the rest of the team. Then the 2 headed monster at the rim with Lively and Gafford is great. They can facilitate, be a lob/dunk option, as well as great rim protection and rebounding for more possessions. Then folks like Washington and Jones have been able to hit key threes or have been really good on defense. I was a kid in the suburbs of Chicago when Jordan made his rise to the championships. What I learned was that you could have the greatest player to ever play the game but only until you have great teamwork and great coaching can you win championships. Also, I feel like the coaching of Dallas do a great job. Their rotations seem to keep their guys pretty fresh while putting pressure on their opponents. Plus the culture they have created of openness and honesty removes the toxic behavior which kills teams. When you hear Luka and Kyrie talk they are always praising each other and their teammates. It's great to see and great to watch. Also, don't count out the Timberwolves. That team is really strong and talented. I think the coaching makes decisions that don't make sense to me. Why isn't Reid starting or at least getting major minutes? I think Conley should also be given more of a green light to attack more. I don't think Dallas has a good answer for him. Plus as everyone is saying, KAT and Ant need to attack more. Obviously this is easier said than done but at least attempting it I think will lead to good things for Minnesota. I'm rooting for the Mavs but this Minnesota team is so good that I can see them winning 2 games. I'd love a sweep to allow the Mavs to rest but again Minnesota is really good and with Lively possibly out the Mavs are a different team. Lively is so damn good on both ends. The energy, hustle, and second chances he brings are huge. Plus the rotation of him and Gafford just wears down opponents. It reminds me of a much better version of the 3 headed monster in Chicago with Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, and Will Purdue.
@Smido83
@Smido83 2 ай бұрын
@@OrigEntertainmentOfficial Best defense over the last 20 games... and we even rested our starters for the last 2 and got blown out in those games. Everything you wrote is spot on! The additions of Washington and Gafford brought toughness, speed and athleticism into our starting 5. Everybody on the roster completely trusts each other. If they make a shot or miss 5 in a row. They will still be trusted in crutial situations. Washington for example was 1/9 from 3 over the last 2 games before his huge 3 late in this game. Kyrie without thinking twice just gave him the ball, even if he had either a semi open 3 himself, or an completely open driving lane cause Conley was closing out full speed. But by far the best example was game 3 against the Thunder. They tryed "hack a Lively" with over 5 minutes left and he missed 3 of the first 4 FT. Kidd took him out and told him "Take a breath, focus, we need you out there, so I am sending you back in after the timeout. You got this!". Next Dallas possession he took that timeout, Kyrie went to Lively and told him "Dont run from the fouls. Take it as a compliment. They are scared of you. Now go out and make them pay!" Timeout over, 2 more intentional fouls, Lively goes 4/4 from the line and Dallas wins the game! That was the exact moment I knew, that this team can go all the way. That I knew this team is special. If a coach, star player, everyone in the franchise can give a 20 years old rookie this kind of confidence and trust... everything is possible! Btw, since that game Lively is averaging 10 points, 9 boards, 2.2 Assists, and 1.5 blocks while shooting 80% from the field and 73% from the line (he was a 51% FT shooter in the reg season), and that includes this game, when he only played 9 minutes. Just watch the Kidd press conference after this game, he said the same thing about this team and the trust and confidence everyboby has in each other.

I have seen so many stars complain to the refs. They do it to work on the refs into calling plays in their favor. It's part of the game for them. When you get a bad call in the first half. When the team switch sides. The Ref don't switch. So you get another interpretation of the rules. You want to refs to call it the same both ways. Luka just asking for that so he knows what to expect. Sometimes the Refs will consult and define so everyone is on the same page. It's when he lets it get in his head that it becomes a problem.

Also, matchup zone principles keep the bigger players near the basket for help side rotations and rebounding. It’s honestly the more logical basketball decision. But watching that defensive mindfart by edwars leaving Washington open is inexcusable.

Let's say the Mavs win a ring. I would be good with tanking next year to get whatever is going on with Luka's legs fixed. Lively gets more play to develop. If Kyrie is still there, he can build his trade value more, and we could possibly use the first round pick for a good draftee or trade.

Watching Ant in the playoffs shows me he's got a lot to work on. He doesn't have a great first step or ability to split double teams. He's fast once he gets moving down hill, but his explosiveness isn't all that great on the take off. As Stu Lantz used to say: "Play inside out". Always go to the basket first, get the defense to slack off of you, then you can shoot 3's. ANT is creating space for a step back. Today's NBA is crazy. You have guys who work so hard to take a low percentage shot, when they could create space and get a high percentage shot. All respect to Luka Doncic. He has the ability to shoot from any angle. So much so that it reminds me of Larry Bird. His ability to score off of the step back is the most impressive that I've ever seen. But for literally everyone else in the league who isn't an alien in disguise as a human like Luka, step backs are not high percentage shots. Step backs are hard on your knees, to play that way is not sustainable. Just look at Luka's bloody knees. When did coach's stop coaching players and teaching them to play the right way? Olajuwon did things that no other center could do, in an era with all time great centers, and they didn't try to copy some of his moves. Because they knew it would blow out their knees. These guys probably tried it in practice, and their coach said: "No. We need you healthy big fella. Don't do that." Enjoy Luka right now. Because in a few years and a few knee surgeries he's going to be a very different player and not in a good way.

I think explosive jumping is harder on your knees than step backs are. As long as you stretch and train your joints properly you will be fine. Luka doesn’t rely on blitzing speed or above the rim play
@Davivd2
@Davivd2 2 ай бұрын
@@ry_an. No. I've tried this myself. It's the forward momentum, then suddenly stopping and pushing backwards. That movement puts tremendous pressure on your knee joints. My knees hurt after doing this a few times and that was when I was a in high school and my body was still bulletproof. It's not like Dirk's step back where he is in the post, turns and steps back, leaning way back and shooting above way above his head with a high release. Luka does it in a way that is VERY hard on the knees.

Are there some metrics available from Jokic, Doncic or Nowitzki? Could it be that they look(ed) slow but in reality aren't/weren't? And I don't mean compared to regular people... I mean compared to other top NBA players...

Fyi, as Mavs fan. The reason why I believed this Mavs team is so good and would've beaten the Wolves before the series started is because Luka & Kyrie (obviously). This is a very good defensive team in the timberwolves, it's just that Luka & Kyrie are just far superior offensive talent that really no defense has the answer of stopping together. What I didn't expect is the level of defense Luka & Kyrie are playing. If we're getting that defense from the backcourt, + the offensive level production, and Lively, Maxi returning healthy. I like my odds against the Celtics. It's simple, but comparing the star power. The Mavericks still has better star power over the Celtics and which will come down to the role players on who will win those games.

Luka and Kyrie are killers. JT and JB are consistently unclutch and just not as good of playmakers as either Luka or Kyrie. Tatum and Brown combined are averaging 8 assists in the playoffs this year (only 7 for their career), so it's going to come down to Boston system passing/shot making VS Luka/Kyrie playmaking. Mavs in 6.

Edwards is falling from grace harder than it should be because he's more mouth than deeds. While he is certainly talented, he's just way too full of himself and that brings the focus onto him. Had he just been quietly doing his job his debacle now wouldn't be as scrutinized or criticized. First thing the kid needs to learn is humility, then hard work, and then fearlessness. Kobe or Jordan would NEVER shy away from the moment, even if they were to fail spectacularly.

Yes. Someone said it. Mavs were starting to get good even before All stars. I noticed they started trying hard on deff then and it worked. They slacked some games and then lost. Then started tryharding on def and it worked again. Then they got PJW and Gafford in trade, they got the needed height and that was it. Eye test confirmed they are championship team, so I bet on them. Boston final boss.

Rudy needs to sit. Kat get down on the block or slash and create when possible. Credit DALLAS for being CLUTCH. I dont know what to say rn. Coach J-Kidd in a Finals??? I really love him as a player, even if i didnt watch him play, but Mazzulla wont be outcoached. Bro, the T-Wolves choked pretty hard with this series, but even with the experience factor agaisnt them, they shouldnt have choked so hard like that. Let Lively rest for Game 4. I think the Wolves still have the chance to win one game, but it's over. Even if i dont like the Celtics for that shady firing of Udoka, they should get the job done, maybe in 6 tough games. Also. It's the best chance both the Celtics and the Mavs have to win it all in the JT and Luka era. Competition it's getting tougher in the West, and even thought the Celtics are in a great position, i dont trust them as an franchise if they dont get the job done rn, they are giving me Harden/Houston era vibes.
