He’s obviously older and can’t play as consistently, but him coasting in the regular season for the last decade created a false narrative that he doesn’t play defense. He was consistently one of the best playoff defenders. You don’t lead both teams in every stat over a 7 games series without defending. You don’t have series averaging over 2 steals per game and 2 blocks per game without be a legitimate defender.

If I'm AD I'm happy. The fit with Kyrie and the Mavs is better. The Mavs are a better team than the Lakers were with him on it. The Mavs are deeper and with Lively, AD can slide back to the 4 and be the help defender. AD is great as the help defender. Much better than the big body banging against the other teams centers. I'm a life long Lakers fan. But at least for the rest of this season, the Mavs objectively won this trade. They are legit title contenders now.

Makes it almost feel rigged, like since ratings are down, the NBA needed something to get people talking again, they're bringing the biggest young superstar to the most popular team in NBA history. I don't see how the Mavs make this trade, unless if there's something behind the scenes that we don't know about. Maybe Luka has a poor attitude, or they're expecting for his injuries to be worse. Even if so, why not shop him around for the best deals first? This deal is not that great, they're getting AD & one 1st round pick. For sure some better deals would've came in.
