The thing is even if the owners REALLY wanted to get rid of Luka, Nico Harrison still got fleeced. There's no two ways about it. Nevermind the first-round picks, what about the UNPROTECTED first-round picks? Sam Presti and Danny Ainge would have fleeced the Lakers for everything they've got. The only theory i seen that makes any sense, the Mavs owners are purposely trying to sabotage the team. The owners made their money in the Casino business and they wanna build a casino around the Mavs arena. They didnt get the approval to build the Arena so the next time its up for approval is in 2 years. The theory is ownership is deliberately turning the fans against them so they have a reason to move to Vegas

Luka is a part of a select group of players that have shown that on a regular basis they completely control the game and take over a series with their play IN THE PLAYOFFS. And theyve done it enough that you EXPECT them to do it everytime. That group includes Joker, Giannis, Durant, Lebron, Steph, LUKA Kwahi (when healthy) and maybe after this year's playoff SGA. There are alot of excellent players in the league. But when you got one of these, you likely have a generational player. YOU DONT TRADE THOSE PLAYERS AWAY ESPECIALLY IN THEIR PRIME. AND IF YOU DO YOU BETTER GET A KINGS RANSOM AND THEN SOME IN THE TRADE. I don't think any reasonable person would say the Mavs got a Kings ransom even though AD is a great player.

When the Adelsons lost their gambling vote, their attorney called Adam Silver and said you need a young star in LA....we got a young star....you guarantee you will allow us to move to Vegas if we doin't get Gambling in Texas. With that deal done, Luca was the dead fish warning to the Texas legislature saying we are willing to trade Luca, give us gambling or else. Right out of Michael Corleone threatening Moe Green for the Casino and Bruno Tatalia sending a dead fish to the Corleones after the death of......LUKA Brazvi. So poetic.. This is right out of the Godfather. So, this gets the Adelsons a team and a Casino in either Dallas or in Las Vegas. It is all about the money and the gambling. The NBA owners need a superstar in LA.

It seems to me that Jason Kidd was surprised and displeased with the trade, suggesting that the general manager acted independently and executed the deal without giving the team much, if any, prior notice. It is unlikely Kidd or the Mavs as a TEAM was displeased with Luka. Then unexpectedly, the Mavs' GM reaches out exclusively to one team, the Lakers, trading away the player LeBron has identified as a top choice to play alongside, and makes the trade for a relatively low return. It seems rather suspicious to me.

As a Mavs fan, I believe that AD is a fantastic trade off for Luka. I know I'm in the minority, AD is injury prone just like Luka so that is a wash. AD skill set can deliver a championship. AD is a shot blocker. AD will neutralize Porzingis. AD is a deadly scorer. AD can shoot free throws. The Mavs will have better ball movement and better defense. Mavs will have three veterans with championship experience. Players will now have touches so they can show case their abilities. Mavs are aiming to be like Boston who do not have a ball dominant player but is more team centric. When Porzingis was with Dallas, he could not get touches but in Boston, the ball moves and he gets touches unlocking his abilities on the court.

Every decision the Mavericks have made in recent years has clearly been focused on Luka and his style of play. Brian Windhorst suggests that, all of a sudden, the Mavericks reversed their stance, claiming they can’t win with Luka - despite him leading the team to the Finals the previous season - and opted to trade him for a highly skilled, but lesser player whose style does not align with the style the Mavs have been built to play. That the Mavs supposedly suddenly believe this new direction will enhance their chances of securing a championship, despite the incompatibility of playing styles is difficult to believe.

The NBA was managing the Hornets at the time, they're the ones who vetoed that trade because they thought it would tank the Hornets. It's not comparable at all.
@professormilly2021
@professormilly2021 4 күн бұрын
@@lemini4k The comparison fits because of how the trade was constructed, not because of a comparison with Kobe/Lebron. When the Lakers traded for CP3, it was right after a CBA and that pissed off the owners so they pressured Stern to nix the trade. This time they did the trade it in secret so by time the owners were pissed off it was too late. Danny Ainge didn't know he was helping the Lakers get Luka until it was too late and he represented the third team in the trade. Both trades were done without CP3/Luka being available to the wide market.
@professormilly2021

@@One.Zero.One101 I challenge you to do research on why Stern vetoed the trade. He cancelled the trade because other NBA owners complained to him about it. This has been covered in great detail. You can even find a leaked email Dan Gilbert (then cavs owner) sent to Stern begging him to cancel the trade. Look it up, it was on ESPN. WOJ even covered it at the time as well as ESPN. Up until that point, the league had stayed out of all Hornets business. Jeannie Buss straight up said that the owners attacked the trade because the owners felt it was unfair.

Brian Windhorst wants us to believe that these "indiscretions" or "concerns" - which he's attempting to rationalize for the fans - are significant enough to justify the trade. However, these so-called "concerns" would hardly lead most teams to release even the last player on their bench. It's hard to believe they are a valid reason for the Mavs to trade away one of the few true generational, franchise-altering superstars that the league has today.

The Mavs' GM collaborated solely with the Lakers' GM, concealing from everyone else his willingness to trade Luka. Clearly if other teams became aware that Luka was available, the Mavs would have been inundated with more enticing offers. The dubious actions that took place behind the scenes in this trade are quite troubling and all parties involved should be scrutinized, as should the potential "relationship" between the Mavericks' GM and Klutch Sports.

There's something suspicious about this trade, but I doubt the league will investigate, since the trade benefits both the Lakers and LeBron. Typically, what benefits the Lakers and LeBron also serves the league’s interests, as it leads to greater viewership and fan engagement - especially since the Lakers are poised to make deeper playoff runs and have a genuine chance at competing for multiple championships.

As soon as the Mavs called the Lakers about this trade they lost all leverage. They had to take whatever offer the lakers had because they couldn't risk Luka be shopped getting leaked. Once that's leaked then Luka is pissed and now the Mavs have ZERO leverage in a trade cuz everyone knows he's pissed about getting shopped and will play hardball with EVERYONE. Its really not that hard to see.

The new salary cap rules are playing a massive role in these moves. Math is simple: second apron is at $188.9mln. Doncic was going to sign a 5 years 350mln (70 mln a year) which accounts for 37% of the cap space below the second apron for just 1 player. So if I'm the NEW ownership in Dallas I am asking myself the question, if I believe with the highest possible certainty that that player will be hyper performing for those 5 years. Because the worst case scenario is a disaster. And evidently the answer from the Mavs ownership was "NO"
