The horse is memorizing. It's simple training, just most people don't teach their horses this. Mine nods if you ask him if he wants a treat, he goes to his stall if you say "go home" or "go to your room". It's easy, fun stuff to teach your horse.

Seems to me to be similar to Clever Hans (he's well worth looking up!) It's not actual spelling or counting, but reading subtle cues (or not so subtle, this horse is maybe not as clever as Hans was, and we humans can see the cues here) given by the trainer but I think that's pretty smart in it's own way!

This is nothing new! I had a horse that knew at least 150 words, she was a Crab Arab, she was super smart, she stood up when told, she went down when told, the greatest trick she had was 'find your mummy' she could be free anywhere in the bush in Australia, she would find me..... she could be told to get out of this paddock and wait for me, she went to the gate , opened it, shut it, then waited...... she knew she was free, she chose to be with me, that is no pain, no force training to its full........ i could turn her loose anywhere and she would find me..... she was 38 years old when she died of cancer, she was rugged all her life, the Aussie sun never hit her, ive honestly never recoverd, she was my sister, my daughter, my soul mate.... she was me!!!! people say i am incredable with equines but i feel lost without her, yes i hear, yes i speak, but do i want to help again, i neeed her

Oh people please, this lady is an awesome trainer and obviously has a very good relationship with Lukas. But as far as him knowing his shapes and being able to count? No... She's giving him cues which way to move his head every time he comes back for a treat. Every horse is very intelligent and with time, effort and the proper training any horse could do ANY of this.
@bigbenstubbs14 жыл бұрын
She pushes his head in the direction of the correct answer after she feeds him. You can't always tell because the camera and her body is usually angled so that it's hidden. If you look closely you can see it.
@xEmeraldFire11 жыл бұрын
I have horses and know that they can be very very smart, but she needs to mix up the letters and numbers so we can see he's not just pointing at the right spot. I have seen the other parts of this and he is a very smart horse! This just doesn't prove it.
@NoWokeSpeak5 жыл бұрын
This is not to say that the horse isn't smart, because he is, but from what I see, it is less about the object and more about the signal through touch that gets him to touch the block she tells him to touch. Most noticeably is when she tells him to touch a block that is across her body. If you watch, she gently guides his head and moves her hand in the direction of the block she is calling out. This does not take away from the horse, because while he may not know what each thing is by name, he is able to discern what he is expected to do through touch and gesture. That my friends is incredibly intelligent considering this horse has to work out what this human wants him to do.
@horselover1529 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see you try moving the shapes around and asking him then? With better training, he could be a smart horse, but a)he shouldn't be coming to you to get the treat and b) he shouldn't be rewarded when he does the wrong one.

TRUST ..... is the key! As with human beings! As a fellow horse owner (gonna use a couple of mine as examples), I'm not all that impressed with these tricks, yes that is what they are. Any horse can learn them, all it needs is a bit of time and repetition. Don't get me wrong, it is cool that your horse has learned all those tricks, heck I'd like to teach my Standardbred mare (very moody and has an attitude) to pick up hats, she's smart enough to grasp it, she just rather do anything else (getting groomed, fed, grazing out in the pasture with my 8 other horses) so she'll ultimately ignore me, what tricks she does know my TWH mare taught her. Where as My QH mare, Indy (who would rather be with me, or anyone that will give her attention), I got her from out of state when she was 2 years old (papers to prove it) and the people who had her had already broke her to ride (I trust her on her own with small kids in a large group of horses) I only had her a couple days (week at most) and took her to a small local show and did the trail class, she earned 2nd out of 3 horses (if I remember right), I take her back home, and don't ride her for the month between the shows (kind of a test for her) I take her back into the same trail class (they never change the pattern much to my annoyance) no practicing on the pattern either, and she starts doing the pattern on her own with some to little correction from me she gets 2nd or 3rd out of 5 or 6 horses that time. then the next month (following the same pattern between shows) I take her in and as soon as I finish working the gate (very first thing to get through) she just goes into automatic, perfect 180 degree turn, backed through the cones without issue, made the other 180, trotted up to the bridge and walked over it, loped to the next cone flawlessly, stopped and did the 450 degree turn in the box, loped on the opposite lead to another cone and dropped down into a trot and weaved the remaining cones like it was the most natural thing in the world, much like eating and sleeping. The judge was shocked (all the other judges that have been there have been as well, there's a different one each month) she was only two years old. about 8 or so EXPERIENCED horses she took home the 1st place ribbon despite only being on the trail pattern two times prior with no extra work and just hanging out in the field between shows. I've taken her to a trail clinic once just last year where the trail was different, the gate was the last thing to be worked, and there was no attempt to try making a go for it thinking "Okay, the gates always been first gotta go there"

Yeeaah no she's giving him directions towards the right one so he's not memorised it yet. He's more focused on the food reward than the actual table which under his nose like that he likely can't see very well. Also she says she moves them but doesn't actually move them neither does she move the letters or use different letters. All this horse is doing is all she's half trained him to do no more than what any other horse can do.

Actually, the numbers are not in the same place and I am teaching my horse this, they CAN identify shapes, numbers and letters. It is a good idea though to put the pieces with the numbers, etc. on the floor with something heavy attach so they don't move so much and further away to not confuse the horse when he/she gets it right and gets rewarded while training, they are just like people, they just need to be taught.

Definitely a trick, the trainer is giving the horse hand cues (even pushing the horse's muzzle). It's obvious during the counting exercise. This horse does not know the letters, shapes, or numbers, it just knows positions and is cued by the trainer on which position to touch. If the horse can spell and count, let's see him do a whole word or number sequence without a treat between each correct answer.
@johnnyhaiku85213 жыл бұрын
Im noticing how quiet your voice is and the horse is picking up on every cue. Please explain!
@GuardianAzure14 жыл бұрын
This kind of claim isn't new. In the 80s or 90s, there was a man who claimed his horse could do complex math and would demonstrate by stomping out the correct answer. It was in fact proven that when the horse began stomping, his trainer would unconsciously bow his head in hope/expectation/whatev, and then raise his head once the horse had reached the correct stomp, which signaled the horse to stop. Remove the trainer, and the stomps became random.

Years ago a horse named Bess who belonged to MGM in Hollywood could do what you just described except for the part about passing the body brush. That horse knew about 500 words. I notice that the horse in this YT video is rewarded with food each time he does something. I'd be far more impressed if it was done without a reward. I'd bet your friends horse does not do it for a reward. I learned about Bess by watching a TCM movie short just a few minutes ago.
