The peace and calm that you hear in the lady's voice is amazing. She comes across as certain of herself, doesn't belittle the horse, uses directions which are clear to the horse and uses consistent words of praise to let her horse know he's doing well. The best way to be assertive in a dominant way, without being aggressive. All too often, people think dominance cannot take place without aggression. This is a grave misconception. Very nice job.

What a companionship!. That's wonderful to see. To the spurs haters - get a grip, spurs are only bad and dangerous in the wrong hands (or on the wrong boots). This rider is good at what she does. If anyone has ever owned a racehorse that's raced and then brought back/reschooled for English riding then you'd appreciate how much work this woman has put into this horse. Good job!

My old horse got nicknamed Houdini. He had multiple latches on his stall door - first and highest, a simple hook, then a slide bolt, then a gravity slide bolt, then a padlock, and we barred in the top half of the door. After that he learned how to grab the door with his teeth and lift it off the rails or hinges. He also learned to pull a loose board off the side of his stall to let the goats next door come in to play with him.

I know nothing about horses, but I do know about people. It was awe inspiring the way she talks to the horse and how he responds to her... definitely a special connection there. It's as if he WANTS to please her and is SO attentive. She is so soft spoken with the horse. She is one gifted woman to be able to train like she does. I have seen horse trainers who use whips and yell...so much bad vibes. When you hear the term "Horse Whisperer" she is the amazing example of that. Absolutely sweet Thank you for posting this video. I seen a video on horse abuse and killing that goes on in some rodeo's, it tore me up to learn and see how some people are so cruel and heartless. Beautiful Jim Key is the smartest. He could spell and have a letter board where anyone could ask him questions with the owner not even present and he would spell out things. Trained by his owner, and veterinarian, the same person, Mr. Key.

I might be wrong, but I think I recall you two boarding at our barn in Norco for a short while several years ago :) You had his barn stall painted with some gorgeous murels. Lukas is a sweetheart.

This horse is very intelligent. And to all the people who say the horse has a weird trot it doesn't. It is the way the rider is asking the horse to she's asking him to pick his feet up high but not to high at the same time it takes a smart horse to process that in there minds. When they are in that kind of trot the rider tells the horse trough body language to not move his back this could cause the horse to have a stiff back. Also to the people who say Spurs are terrible are idiots it's not Spurs that are bad it's the way some people use them. In this Case there used when not needed but not aggressively.

I really like the way you reward throughout his tricks a lot of the time I've found that people will use treats during training and then once the horse learns to do it they no longer get for it. he's beautiful as well very nice job training!

This is a good example of how spurs are used to give clearer signals rather than hurting the horse! You can see with the way she is patient and kind with this horse that she has no intentions of harming him. They are rounded end spurs used to send him clearer signals and are useful for tricks like the spanish walk. I just love how patient she is with this horse!

He is a thoroughbred. Color markings like that can be in many breeds. This horse is lovely and I always enjoy seeing positive training methods. Treats and positive verbal reinforcement. The horse really enjoys working with you now. Good job.

I'm confused why its called the worlds smartest horse. I mean, yes this horse knows a lot. Pretty cool. But like, me and my equine friend can do all this, + more. Without a bit and tack yet. (Liberty Horsemanship) I'm not out to brag. I'm just wondering why its stated as world's smartest horse, when I know several others (not just the angel in my life) that can do a lot more.... Is this horse in the records book or something? Its just what I'm rather confused about. Or is it a self proclaimed title? Just out of wonder.

+Femina Proletarius I take great care of my equine friends. I dont use shoes...or large amounts of metal on my equine friends... they only go in the stalls at night. (we have loads of bears and wolfs where I live) so when we are asleep. they get to chill out safely in there stall. (toys and food and stuff inside) and are let out at the crack of down (5 hours week days and maybe 8 occasionally on weekends) but when we sleep we dont know if a bear will cone running up like they done in the past. so for saftey they are stalled. (we keep guns around available just in case... dnr relased 30 something wolves 10 miles from my house....I dont know what they were thinking...)

Hoove_Beats_in_our_Hearts I get what you are saying. But when you say you don't shoe them that automatically makes me think you are saying people that shoe their horses are hurting/abusing them. In some cases they may be completely unnecessary for their hoof strength and structure, but from my experience shoes can be great for a horse. My horse wears shoes from lack of strength in his front hoof but that doesn't mean I am a bad owner in any way. But again I'm not sure if that's what you meant by the statement " I take great care of my equine friends. I don't use shoes."

Yes that may help but for long term that doesn't do anything. Plus I can not imagine jumping, riding, and keeping those "boots" on in the pasture. Either they would break, he would trip from jumping, or would be extremely uncomfortable for him to wear for the rest of this life. Shoes can be EXTREMELY beneficial for many horses. Not to mention that it can help a horse with lameness. So no the shoes do not hurt him, I have made a choice to have shoes put on after trying many products and having him barefoot. But none could keep him from pain. So I'm sorry but I'm not going to sit here and have someone tell me these "boots" would be safer and more effective for a horse in my situation that has extreme hoof problems. It would be completely foolish to not have them in a stall because of the threat of the bears and wolves attacking them. I used to keep my horse in a stall 24/7 and he loved to be in his stall! He wouldn't even want to leave it! Of course he still got 2 hrs of riding a day as well as 4 hours of turn out time after school (Now he is turned out 24/7) But I get that most people don't like having their horse in a stall. In my opinion as long as the horse doesn't mind being in a stall and gets riding and turnout time each day then its fine!

Most horses as well as any domestic animal training is easily motivated by food. This isn't necessarily a good thing. On the contrary. I have seen many performances where treats are not used, but through a bond and trust, a horse will respond to commands. Sure, this horse is smart, (as are all given the chance) but he does tricks for food. I've seen better without 'treats'! No disrespect meant.

She actually rides well, The spurs I agree on, i use thumb spurs but thats because I ride a 16 almost 17 hand horse and my legs can't fully wrap around her so they just help give clear signals, They are just little nubs and i rarely use them, just when i need them

It lacks impulsion and forward energy as well as his head wobble. He isn't muscular enough to get his hind end underneath and truly trot. If she posted and asked forward energy and pushed him up into the bridle he would look waaaaaay better

First of all, why don't you people get your information straight before you go saying negative things about this beautiful animal. Lukas is a old retired racehorse !! He blew two tendons in his front legs, and he was also abused and abandoned. All this lady is trying to do is show you how proud she is of her horse for being what he is today. Instead of being jealous, why can't anyone appreciate the beauty of this relationship between horse and human

It's not dressage...dressage is a horse in self carriage rounding through the back, hindquarters engaged....not a horse gently ambling along, trotting behind and practically walking up front. That said, the horse looks to be extremely happy and healthy and it is lovely to see such gentle and rewarding horsemanship.

I am not surprised by this at all. I work with intelligent cutting horses every day. They all have inherited an instinct to herd cattle. One of them has been to the chiropractor in the past and now has a habit of doing her exercises without being prompted. A couple of them pick up the stall pick with their teeth and pretend to clean, several of them know just when to move while you are cleaning. They have individual personalities, and they have feelings and habits. They are amazing creatures.

I think it's because most non-horse people know very little about them. All of these things are easy to teach if you have a patient person I think the cool thing about this video is watching her kindness with this gelding. So often race horses get into abusive situations post race career and it's really nice to see one that has someone who loves him and obviously spends a ton of time just playing games with him....that is all 95% of that stuff is, just a horse playing games with his owner.

I think he is clever...and maybe he is a quick learner too. You usually do stuff like that with your horse to challenge it. I did a few things with my boy too, and he did well, but I think it would take him a very long time to learn all this things that Lukas can do, just because horses are different :D She has every right to be proud of him, he is so adorable and obviously clever :D

@aphishoutofwater A horses balancing arm is their neck, which is where all their overall balance is achieved. as you can see his trot is quite loose and bouncy collected which works for him. and his head is going up and down aswell to keep the balance and bounce of his legs and hindquarters. it looks unusual but i have seen a lot of horses do it. nothing wrong with it at all :)
