I don't see the "World's Smartest Horse"... I see a willing horse with great athletic ability and a trainer that is amazing. That matched with such a bond like this will make a horse as amazing and beautiful horse... Not to mention smart! :) So cool to see something like this.

What I love about this is that so many people think thorough breeds are "useless" outside of racing and that when they retire they may as well be shot. Lukas proves those ppl wrong.

I understand where you're coming from but most of the time they are loonitocs and one of my friends had an ex-race horse at pony camp one year and it was a nutter and by about the second day they has her on a new horse because it was just being stupid. But I guess it's how you treat them when you get them. I dunno

I think the title is way misleading. I have no doubt that the horse is superbly trained....but I also have no doubt that other horses could be trained to an equal level....so it is training and not intelligence. If your looking for a story about an intelligent horse, look up "The smartest horse that ever lived" and you will see the difference between training and intelligence.

They are over-reach boots, which are designed to prevent possible injuries, particularly in dressage, or any discipline where the horse has to extend or change his gait. If Lukas 'over-reaches' with his back feet and hits his front hooves in a trot, for example, neither set of hooves will be damaged or bruised.

she could have showed him the lip thing first, and may do it very often so that he would associate the treats with that, and then moved on to other tricks leaving the most flamboyant to last, this teaches the horse that there are many ways he can get the treats and therefore will most likely choose the easiest and most familiar one to him :)

I thought the trot was a 3-beated gait not a 2-beated gait.I think this horse is really smart but my 14.1.5 paint horse crosses his legs all the times only farther and he rubs them together even without boots on and my 15hh arab mare can stretch her neck almost to her tail on both sides and can bow. any horse can learn those tricks with patience, time, and rerwards! definetly rewards

The TROT IS a two-beat diagonal gait. The CANTER is a three-beat gait (a combination of diagonal and lateral footfalls). The walk and gallop are four-beat gaits.

are those overreach boots on his hind feet? doesnt really make sense since theyre to protect the heels of the forefeet from hind feet overstepping. Also, thoroughbred types are very capable of doing grand prix dressage movements like passage albeit they might not have the elevation of say Lusitanos or Andalucians or be as popular as the Warmbloods. Their relationship is amazing - so nice to see such trust. Bit concerned about that trot tho i suppose a16 year old ex-racehorse could just be stiff

@SillieShannon Shannon, take a close look - he is trying to keep his balance. Like when we stand on one leg so we won't totter. He is ALWAYS allowed to stop anything he doesn't wish to continue - that is what liberty is all about. He often does this of his own accord and I never would ask him to keep a position that would bother him.

Exactly. There are horses out there such as tommy turvey's and they do wayyyyy more than you trust in a horse. The jump rear up trick and one leg spin was very good though. It's hard to make them do that and the straight hooves in the air when rearing up.

When she says he is the "smartest horse in the world" she means he is smarter than other horses. Meaning he can do what most horses can't do. She may be bragging a bit, but it's not like you people with horses brag about your horse a little. She dose not mean he can paint or spell his name.
