Luke got his chance on the Grammys and gave Tracy all the love she deserves. The reverence he has for her is heartfelt and lovely.

What a lovely fellow he is? I did not know him and just saw him for the first time on the Grammys! But I certainly know that song, and like Luke, Fast Car has been a part of so many lives and Tracy is a prolific performer. Luke is humble and honest, you cannot buy that. Love his version, love hers of course and LOVE the live performance at the Grammys. What a gift.

I said this on another video but the song is one of the best ever written, watching her showed just what a great writer she is and the cheers from the crowd was fantastic, seeing the few artist standing and singing along, RESPECT, but to me the beat part was that smile on Tracy's face, more precious than anything on earth.

This shows what a nice young man he is, what a fantastic song this has always been but sadly also how broken the music business is when the single of the year is an admittedly very well executed cover.

Give Tracy the award. She deserves it. How many years did it take her to get the standing ovation for that song. You helped bring her forward to sing it BUT she deserves the award. She earned it. It’s her story. Step up and do the right thing.

How old are you? That song was a HUGE hit when it was out. Also, Tracy Chapman willingly left the spotlight. Go look up interviews with her. I agree though that artists should not be able to receive grammys for songs that are not original with the exception of sampling. She is also most likely receiving a surge in sales again because of this cover much like Dolly Parton did when Whitney covered "I will always love you".

@@b.c.islandgal..6772 Tracy Chapman won Song of the Year at the 2023 Country Music Awards because she wrote Fast Car. If Luke Combs hadn’t released Fast Car and became a hit on the country charts, Tracy wouldn’t have won the Country Music Awards.

She has the royalties and now, another grammy nod. He doesn't take but; gives credit to her and her songwriting etc. Yet the cma was for his recording/take on it. Folks sure didn't begrudge whitney fir blowing up I will Always Love You. Least of all, Dolly Parton.

Why cover brilliance? Award by plagarism. Awards should be for originality, not copying/modifying a world class song. An award for cheating, yes. Devalues the whole awards scenario - absolutely. He's humble on someone elses words, probably from a situation that he knows nothing of. Want to be great? GET YOUR OWN IDEAS, covers are not great

Would you have said this in 2003 when Johnny Cash won the same CMA "Single of the Year" award with his cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt"?
@GenXstacker10 ай бұрын
Do you know how many iconic hits were written by other people? If an artist appreciates a piece of music, one of the greatest compliments they can give is to cover it and cover it well. On the Tom Petty Sirius XM station they play covers that Tom did of other great artists and covers other artists did of his music. It's a beautiful thing and we should be grateful they do this and share such performances with us.

I agree all credit where it is due, but covers are artistically significant too. House of the Rising Sun---I don't even need to say the artist--is a cover. Twist and Shout by the Beatles is a cover. I Love Rock N' Roll. Respect by Aretha Franklin. Girls Just Wanna have fun. Hurt. It goes on. Do I prefer the original? Absolutely. But your point is a bad one.

Listen, Tracy Chapman is making a ton of money off of this cover. That and her original version of the song was back on the charts due to this cover. She also won an award for it, 35 years after it was released. Instead of acting all self righteous and gatekeeping something that isn't yours, stop and think about the wonderful things this cover is bringing Tracy
